Food & Flea: November Giving Market is upon us & we have just two markets left this year! We want to utilize these last two markets to not only support local makers but to support our Western NC Helene victims as well. See below for details on how you can help!

Join us for another bustling Fall afternoon in historic Downtown Cary as we host 50 local artisans! Live music, food trucks, dog adoption & toy/supply drive for WNC all on site in the heart of downtown.

CHILDREN’S HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE:
Please bring new/unopened toys to the back plaza of Fidelity Bank.
Age appropriate 6mo-17years.
We have connected with A.L.E.R.T., a 501c3 charitable organization who has compiled a list of families in the hard hit WNC towns who are homeless/housed temporarily &/or severely financially impacted and wanting to keep the Holidays as normal as possible for their children. Our owner will be hand delivering these gifts to WNC families before the Holiday as well as distributing to a local church in the severely impacted Spruce Pine area.

SUPPLY DRIVE:
PLEASE do not bring any clothing items or water!
ITEMS NEEDED:
-small propane heaters/tanks(5lbs.)
-camping stoves
-extreme cold sleeping bags
-wool blankets
-mops/buckets
-heavy duty gloves for outdoor clean up
-5 gal. buckets w/lids for water transport

For the past two weeks I have struggled with the great calling to help & the greater need to have patience with the relief process. My oldest daughter attends Appalachian State University and Western NC has held a special place in my heart for most of my life. I have hiked those blue hills, camped along those rivers & shopped/dined in those small mountain towns for the better part of my 41 years. This past summer my family & I spent time hiking Chimney Rock, swimming in Lake Lure & wandering around Western NC…we are so grateful for those trips and we look forward to being able to make those memories again in our beloved Blue Ridges. I know that the spirit of the large hearted people in those communities will persevere and those towns will rebuild, the lost loved ones will be honored in the immense efforts of giving humans and with time and ongoing care, Western NC will breathe deeply again.

My daughter was one of the lucky ones and after moving her to new housing, dropping a round of donations in Boone, speaking with a few locals and quickly getting out of the way; I realized that these communities are so grateful but so overwhelmed. The more rural areas are greatly devastated, winter is coming quickly and while I want to exhaust all efforts to donate and volunteer, I have realized the best thing I & my small business can do is be patient & collect.

COLLECT MONEY: I will be donating a percentage of all monthly vendor fees for the foreseeable future to specific small community efforts. I have had the pleasure of organizing this market for the last 10 years and on our 10th Birthday, I can’t think of a better gift than to give. Details to come…

COLLECT DONATIONS: We will be collecting currently needed items at both our November & December markets as well as into 2025 to be distributed to pre-planned rural organizations. THINK WINTER.
Stay tuned for those updated lists & where to drop at our markets…

COLLECT TIME: I will be working on donating my time in smaller towns as a volunteer for local Moms/Dads who need a weekend of childcare to allow them to collect donations, clean/rebuild their home, or just take a quiet moment to process. As a 20 year+ childcare professional, this is the area I am most qualified in to help.

WNC & it’s people are going to need help for a very long time & as long as I am able to help in my/our small but loving way, I will. For those of you wondering if you should visit WNC, please remember that there are more small businesses than not in those communities and those that are open will need your support, if you are not comfortable visiting(sleeping in a tent/camper to allow the homeless etc. to obtain hotels/house rentals), contact them to ask about gift cards for the Holidays.

Long post short, I love you WNC. 💙

With Gratitude,
Jessica
