We’ve got bees back at Spring Hills Farms 🐝🌿

Our beekeeper recently installed two new nucleus colonies from Midnight Bee Supply after our previous hives didn’t make it through the winter.

The good news—there weren’t many bees left behind in the boxes, which likely means they migrated to a smaller, more suitable space nearby (nature always has a plan).

We’ll be checking on the new colonies in a couple of weeks, and next time we’re hoping to capture more behind-the-scenes of the process inside the hives 👀

Stay tuned—this is just the beginning of the season.

Ever wondered how truffle orchards are actually “boosted”? 👀🌳

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at a real process used to support production:

We’re talking about blending black truffles and mixing them with molasses, then spreading that mixture across the orchard using over 3,000 gallons of water. In this case, it covered 12 acres, divided into 5 sections, feeding around 6,000 trees.
So why do this?

Truffles grow through a relationship called mycorrhizal symbiosis—where fungi attach to tree roots and exchange nutrients. By introducing blended truffles into the soil, you’re essentially reintroducing or reinforcing that fungal network. The molasses acts as a natural carbohydrate source, helping stimulate microbial activity in the soil, which can support the establishment of that relationship.

It’s not an overnight fix—truffle cultivation is a long game—but techniques like this can help create the right environment for growth over time.

Nature, science, and a whole lot of patience working together 🌱
