Frida visits Georgia. Magnolias and mint juleps, along with a sweet brown thrasher are certainly not her Mexican heritage. But while in Georgia, put on the southern accent, drink the sweet tea, and eat the fried green tomatoes! It’s a mix of a modern-day Frida with the old. The earrings are silver hands. In real life they were given to her by Picasso. Vivid color in her jewelry with beads large and small, as well as silver, was her favorite. Her favorite color was colbalt blue, which I painted as the choker necklace. The belt buckle references her Mexican heritage and the tattoo of “Diego,” her husband brings her into 2026! My vision for this painting was far from this one in the beginning. But things change and so did my vision. It’s been three years in the making. Anyway, I like my modern folk art Frida!

24 x 36 acrylic on canvas.

Ode to Joy. I grew up in a Methodist church and this song was often played. I especially love to hear it played on the violin. I have adopted the word “joy” in my life and use it as often as I can. Joy is a kind of happiness that only God can give you. In all the problems there are in the world, please try to find your joy. Nothing else really matters. God has this.

I started painting angels in 2012. I wanted something easy to paint, that did not take too long, and that I could use for gifts. I credit God for the idea. Since then I have painted over 2000 angels. Most went to those who needed them at the time, others were by commissions. I loved hearing the stories from people who were needing hugs and prayers. That’s what the angels are really for. I have painted so many variety of angels. This one was painted in the Fall of 2012. It’s a 11 x 14 canvas in acrylic. I still paint them, although they have evolved somewhat. If you want to see them, join Elaine Sloan Art (group page)and click on albums. You will have to join the group, but it’s private and has all of my art and also the art art from others who have taken my classes.
