The Taste of Downtown is one of Carson City’s premier summer events, combining a massive culinary block party with a meaningful community fundraiser. Here is everything you need to know about this signature community celebration:
The Basics & Structure
What It Is: A vibrant, "movable feast" through the heart of historic downtown Carson City.
How It Works:
Ticket holders receive a program/map, and each ticket entitles you to one sample or "taste" from every single participating vendor. The participating restaurants choose what special bite, sweet, or drink they want to showcase, so the menu is full of surprises.
The Footprint:
The event stretches down Carson Street, generally spanning from Robinson Street down to Fifth Street, turning the main downtown thoroughfare into a walkable, lively promenade.
Timing:
The tasting booths typically serve from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, while the live music and block party energy keep rocking until 10:00 PM.
Food, Drink & Entertainment 30+ Culinary Vendors:
The event features an impressive lineup of over 30 local restaurants, cafes, and bars. It includes local staples like the Carson Nugget, Casino Fandango, Red's Old 395 Grill, and Cucina Lupo, alongside food trucks, sweet shops, and local favorites.
Friendly Competition:
Attendees get to cast votes throughout the evening for their favorites in several coveted categories, including Best Taste, Best Sweet Taste, Best Beverage Taste, Best Discovery, and Best Band. Live Music: Multiple entertainment stages (including setups at spots like the Bob McFadden Plaza on Third Street) host a diverse lineup of regional live bands—ranging from rock and country to tribute bands and local DJs—ensuring there is music echoing down every street.
Local Shopping:
Downtown boutiques, galleries, and shops keep their doors open late, offering a great chance to browse between bites.
A Party with a Purpose:
Beyond being a fantastic social night out, the Taste of Downtown is a massive fundraiser with deep roots in the community. The Cause: Every single dollar raised from ticket sales goes directly to Advocates to End Domestic Violence (AEDV), a local non-profit that operates a 40-bed emergency shelter, provides legal and sexual assault advocacy, and runs vital community support programs in Northern Nevada.
Growth & History:
The event began in 1995 as a modest gathering of 7 local restaurants and about 500 guests. Over the last 30+ years, it has exploded into a major regional tradition that brings together thousands of neighbors, local businesses, and visitors for a single, unforgettable summer evening.

Tickets generally run around $45 for advance presale and $50 on the day of the event (if any remain, as it frequently sells out).
