Some collaborations deepen over time. This one had been building for nearly a decade.
What began as Richard MacDonald working with Cirque du Soleil performers as models grew into a formal partnership with founder Guy Laliberté, giving MacDonald access unlike anything available to any other visual artist before or since.
By 2009 that access had brought him to one of the most celebrated productions in the world. O at the Bellagio. Performers doing things the body was never designed to do and making them look inevitable.
Not captured poses. Each one a body caught in its most alive transitional moment, held permanently in bronze by the first and only visual artist ever given exclusive behind the scenes access to Cirque du Soleil.
