🎺 DID YOU KNOW? — French Horn
The French horn has over 12 feet of tubing wrapped into its iconic circular shape!
Known for its warm, rich sound, the horn can blend seamlessly with the woodwinds or boldly shine above the entire orchestra. Despite its name, the instrument evolved from hunting horns used throughout Europe centuries ago. Valves weren't added until the 19th century, allowing horn players to perform the wide range of notes we hear in today's orchestral music. Putting your hand into the bell doesn't just muffle the sound. It is an advanced technique called ""hand stopping"" used to alter pitch, change the instrument's key, and create a distinct metallic timbre. Did you know Carmel's Former Mayer plays the french horn?!
Listen for its noble sound at our next performance!
