Today, we pause our regular content to honor Juneteenth, a day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and an opportunity to reflect on our nation's history.

The story of the Great American Songbook would not exist without the extraordinary contributions of Black composers, lyricists, performers and innovators whose artistry helped shape American music.

Today, we invite you to pause, listen and reflect with a playlist celebrating some of the voices and songs that continue to inspire generations.

As we honor Juneteenth, we encourage you to take time to learn, listen and engage with your community as we recognize this important day.

Today we celebrate the birthday of Songbook Hall of Fame inductee Barry Manilow!

Known around the world for hits like "Mandy," "Even Now," "Looks Like We Made It," "Weekend in New England," and "Tryin' to Get the Feeling," Manilow became one of the defining voices of the 1970s. Beyond his success as a singer-songwriter, he also made his mark as an acclaimed producer and arranger, working with artists including Bette Midler, Nancy Wilson and fellow Songbook Hall of Fame inductee Dionne Warwick.

Recognized by Billboard as the top Adult Contemporary chart artist of all time, Manilow's remarkable career has seen him sell more than 85 million records, earn an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Join us in wishing Barry Manilow a very happy birthday!

Something we love doing is talking with people about what the Great American Songbook means to them. For every listener, performer and fan, the Songbook can inspire something different, and that continued growth and connection is one of the many reasons we are proud to help preserve its history for future generations.

We were honored to be mentioned in this recent History.com article exploring the meaning and legacy of the Great American Songbook, and we are excited for everyone to experience our upcoming exhibit that will dive even deeper into that topic.
