WOW !! What a day we had. The weather was perfect, the carvers offered their best wares and the fresh, homemade donuts were the hit of the morning. Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2nd annual Spirit of Schimmel Carving Expo an overwhelming success. We're already planning some new and exciting things for next year.

One more sleep before the Carving Expo and we can’t wait for you to join us. Please note, due to a family emergency there will be no lunch truck. There will, however, still be coffee and donuts available for the early risers. Cash only. A beautiful day is expected!

--Did you know?
Wilhelm Schimmel (1817-1890) was a German itinerant who lived in Cumberland County during the last quarter of the 19th century. In exchange for food and lodging, often in people’s barns, he made wood carvings for them. Recognized now as a premier folk artist, his carved and painted animals, birds, and especially his eagles, bring tens of thousands of dollars and are displayed in museums throughout the country and held in many private collections. The Cumberland County Historical Society in Carlisle, PA has one of the largest collections of Schimmel carvings in existence. You can view them in the Schimmel section of the second floor museum.

Wilhelm Schimmel often stayed with the Greider family who operated a mill on the Conodoquinet creek. The mill, now Heishman’s Mill after one of its owners, is the site of the Spirit of Schimmel Wood Carving Expo on Saturday, June 13. Come join us !
