Check out CPHO's digital auditions ad! You’ll see one between the I-Hop restaurant and gas station (in front of Lowe’s) on Union Deposit Road in Harrisburg. The other is at the I-83/PA-581 interchange just off the South Bridge – you can see it whether heading into or out of Harrisburg or while entering the interchange from New Cumberland. CPHO wrapped up the 2025 season performing for a near-capacity house last Friday evening. Starting with a phenomenal 9-minute presentation of the “Egmont Overture”, the concert program music was by turns gripping, serene, and fun: the percussionists donned silly hats and glasses while playing a plethora of bells, horns, and whistles for “Comedy Tonight” in the first half, then some of our strings sported cowboy hats for the rousing “Go West!” finale featuring well known western movie themes. Additionally, a select few musicians were featured in the Student Spotlight portion of the evening, during which the bulk of the orchestra joined the audience in the pews in order to enjoy their peers’ solo performances. The audience response from start to finish was enthusiastic, to say the least! Thank you to those of you who came out to support and cheer on our student musicians; and to those of you who missed the opportunity, we hope to see you next spring! CPHO has opportunities for additional viola, cello, and string/double bass players for the 2024 season. Although rehearsals began in September, our roster remains open for these instruments until Christmas. You can find audition and other information about CPHO at www.cphomusic.org.

If you would like to audition for one of these open seats or have questions about the orchestra, please contact the CPHO administrator, Muriel Hergenroeder, at [email protected] or 717-776-7946. We’re sorry, we cannot offer auditions for any other instrument as all other sections are at full capacity.

This Saturday, July 8, is the final scheduled audition date for next season with the Central Pennsylvania Homeschool Orchestra. Shout out to Lori Lynn at Lamar Advertising Company for getting our ad onto a couple outdoor digital panels, like this one in Enola near the Turkey Hill on Wertzville Road (just off I-81.) Although we can take no more trumpets, the conductor is happy to audition all other instruments, particularly cello, contrabass, viola, 2nd violin, tuba, and French Horn. Learning to play in an ensemble is a unique aspect of music education, which CPHO can provide in a professional yet welcoming setting. This just might be the musical outlet your child’s been looking for!

CPHO kicked off the 2023 season with our first rehearsal on September 12th. We’re excited about having our largest roster ever – 36 musicians! As you can see from the pictures, all sections of the orchestra are well represented. Four-fifths of our number are returning members, so we have a strong base of experienced musicians to help our new members acclimate to ensemble playing. One of the pieces we worked on was the lovely “Back to the Mountains” from the movie Return to Snowy River. It’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser at our concert on April 28, 2023!
