Did you know that when the Lord calls us to "be holy" or "be sanctified," He is calling us to be devoted wholeheartedly to Him? Growing in holiness means growing in devotion. A life of devotion is one where there is no distinction between the secular and the sacred. As Paul Washer quips, "Even the pots and pans are holy!" Our entire life - every waking moment, every thought, emotion, task - needs to be dedicated, consecrated, to Him. I saw a quote on Instagram awhile ago that I love: "A life half devoted is a life not devoted at all. For how can we look at our Lord who gave His all and say, 'I only want to give you some.'" (author unknown) Stop and think for a moment: Is there a part of my life that I am withholding from him? Is there a piece of me, a dream, a feeling, a relationship that I stubbornly refuse to lay at his feet? Am I wholeheartedly pursuing His glory? Or am I selfishly living for me?
Dear Father, Forgive me for my selfishness. Enable me to live for you. May everything I do - the way I love my spouse, the way I parent my children, the way I keep my home, the way I speak to strangers, the way I handle conflict, the way I show hospitality - be glorifying to you. Make me wholeheartedly devoted to the One who gave His life for me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
