When I was a kid I took ceramics classes for a few years at a local community centre.
The woman running the classes had a friend who had worked with Brian Froud who I was obsessed with at the time.
Everyone loved his Faeries book with Alan Lee but I really, really loved his Labyrinth book with Terry Jones and the original run of The World Of The Dark Crystal book.
The friend was building articulated dolls with wire armatures. The faces and hands were traditionally baked clay.
I was all on board with this and started making my own and sold several.
This blue faced thing was probably one of the last ones I ever made before I discovered Gerald Scarfe and found a new path to walk.
Mum just found this guy in the shed.
I probably made him when I was 12 or so.
I’m vaguely tempted to try another but I might be too cool now.
