Carbondale Creative District

Carbondale Creative District A program of Carbondale Arts. Preserving & advancing the creative ethos of Carbondale.

In June 2014, Carbondale was chosen to participate in the state's new creative district program. This program, instituted by Colorado Creative Industries, comes with a cash award over two years time and in-kind donation from the state to develop Carbondale's business plan. The Carbondale Creative Plan is based on strengthening business, artists and organizations in Carbondale, Colorado through col

laboration, creativity and community. This plan focuses on: Wayfinding and Connectivity, Creative Industry Inventory, State Creative District Designation and Marketing Our Creative Zones. In the future, we will look at connecting with our greater Western Slope Region to boost tourism through art and agriculture. Most of us have frequented "Carbondale's Living Room" also known as Carbondale Beer Works , who also just celebrated a decade of serving the community. As this month's District feature, we hear from owner Patrice Fuller on gained insights and highlights of business ownership.

"I always knew that when I owned my own business I would use my platform to help others. Being open to using my business to help others makes people feel comfortable asking me. It's easy to write a check, but I prefer hosting an event to help. That way you can hear the story of the person or group needing assistance. Everyone feels more connected to and involved in the process."

On display through the end of June, check out new paintings by artist Robert Burch at Bonfire Coffee in Carbondale, a rotating art program partnership with Carbondale Arts

Robert Burch [b. 1991] is an experimental artist unbound by medium or physical location. He creates wherever he is; the mountains of Colorado, New York City, Asheville, Barcelona etc. As a life-long skateboarder and creative, he is an engaged participant in counter cultural worldviews and artistic practices. His work is rooted in analog processes however, Robert completed a degree in graphic design [School of Visual Arts, NYC, 2022] and has since combined motifs developed across mediums to carve out a style and voice for himself. He has lived in Carbondale off and on since 2007, and has probably consumed over 1000 Dos burritos.

Weโ€™re in a special place of the time continuum with local artist, cycle enthusiast, and community member extraordinaire, Darin Binion. Darin is well known amongst local organizations for his epic volunteer spirit, sunny disposition, and creative nature.

โ€œVolunteering in Carbondale brings you together with like-minded community members and allows you to really be an active part of the community.โ€

โ€œLiving in Carbondale we are blessed with endless amounts of cycling and artistic opportunities. Trail networks like Prince Creek and Red Hill offer great mountain biking while being able to ride to the trailhead from home. Many local artists incorporate cycling as a release for idea generation, many of my ideas have come about during a mountain bike ride. Carbondale blends artistic and active communities together in so many fun events throughout the year.โ€

Now through the end of April at Bonfire Coffee, local artists Leslie Schramer. She is the artist behind PAWSitivity Prints, a small local business specializing in pet-centric artwork, notecards, prints, and apparel.

Leslie generously donates 10% of her proceeds to C.A.R.E., (); while also donating her time via weekly volunteer shifts with their shelter animals. A corporate events planner by day, she founded PAWSitivity Prints during the Covid years and continues to grow her artistic passion. (Fun fact: Leslie was a Studio Art minor in college!) Leslie also loves painting the iconic Aspen tree landscapes of the Roaring Fork Valley and recently has started dabbling in textured art.
