Spectrolite is a rare, Finnish labradorite gemstone, set apart by its wide range of iridescent colors. Compared to other labradorites, spectrolite gemstones are generally higher-quality and only come from Finland.

But wait, what is labradorite?

Labradorite is a feldspar gemstone with a dark, translucent base naturally overlaid by a unique iridescence. The glow, or schiller, seems to come from inside the stone, and the phenomenon is named “labradorescence” after the gem.

So, what makes spectrolite labradorite so special? Today, we’ll answer just that, along with all your other questions about spectrolite’s properties, healing uses, and value.

Starting with the basics, what is spectrolite stone?

About Spectrolite Stone
First, is spectrolite a gemstone? Yes, spectrolite is a semi-precious gemstone with a dark base and strong, multi-colored iridescence.

The stone’s gemological name is spectrolite, but this term started as a brand name of Finnish spectrolite. While labradorite crystals from other locales may look similar to spectrolite, only specimens from Finland can legally be called “spectrolite.”

Many gem experts consider spectrolite the most beautiful type of labradorite. Given the stone’s full array of color flashes, we’d have to agree! Many folks draw parallels between spectrolite’s iridescence and other natural phenomena like rainbows and Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights.

While we’re discussing phenomena in the sky, it’s worth mentioning that spectrolite is a star stone for Uranus. It’s also a zodiac stone for Leo, Scorpio, and Sagittarius signs!

Spectrolite Specifications & Characteristics
Spectrolite and labradorite are feldspar stones, specifically anorthosite plagioclase feldspars. This means their composition is sodium, calcium, aluminum, and silicon. The calcium and sodium content can vary, with calcium between 50-70 percent and sodium between 30-50 percent.

Other plagioclase feldspars include sunstone and andesine. While these gems can show aventurescence (a metallic glittering surface), neither show the signature labradorescence specific to labradorite and spectrolite.

But what is labradorescence?

Labradorescence is a type of adularescence only used for labradorite stones. Adularescence is an iridescent play-of-color that appears to emerge from inside the stone, rather than on its surface. Moonstone is another gem with adularescence.

Spectrolite’s labradorescence occurs in part because of twinning, where multiple crystals grow into one another during the gem’s formation. The twinning crystals form alternating layers of two types of feldspars with different chemical compositions.

Given these factors, light hits the inside of the stone and then diffracts, separating into multiple rays. To our eyes, this separation looks like flashes of different colors.

Check out the rest of spectrolite’s mineral properties below:

Australian pink opal presents an exciting new take on collectible gemstones. Pink opal is a trade name for a rare variety of pink mookaite. This rare variety of pink colored mookaite only occurs in a single known location among the thousands of square miles where mookaite has been found in Western Australia.

What Color is Australian Pink Opal?
As its name implies, Australian pink opal is primarily pink in color. However, it displays banding not typically seen in other gemstones. These bands of colors can range in hue, from soft baby pinks all the way through a ruddy magenta. These bands of color are sharply separated, creating an interesting visual contrast throughout the stone. And because the colors are naturally occurring, no two stones are ever alike, meaning that every stone is a unique and natural work of art.

Other Australian Pink Opal Quality Factors
Australian pink opal ranks 6.0 to 7.0 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Not a true opal, but a trade name for pink mookaite, Australian pink opal is opalized radiolarite. It’s formation places it somewhere between chalcedony and opal in physical properties. Perfectly fine for daily wear, this gem will stand up to the challenges of the day.

These opals possess a smooth finish when polished, free from blemish. Australian pink opals will have a pleasant glassy luster after polishing. You’ll find this gemstone in cabochons of various shapes, with round and ovals dominating. Other shapes, such as pears, are also possible.

Who Should Wear Australian Pink Opal?
If you’re already fascinated with other opaque red and pink gemstones, such as Norwegian thulite or Argentinian rhodochrosite, then Australian pink opal is a natural addition to your collection. If you collect Kennedy Range mookaite or peanut wood jasper, then complete your collection of Mooka Station gemstones with this fascinating pink opal.
Mookaite occurs in Western Australia, in a locality known as Mooka Station. Kennedy Range Mookaite occurs in this area. Australian pink opal is found about half a mile further to the south. Mooka station is a very unusual center of geological finds. Besides these two gems, peanut wood jasper is also found in this small region!

How Did Australian Pink Opal Form?
The radiolarite strangely formed over the centuries. A great inland sea once existed in the area that encompasses Mooka Station. Microscopic creatures known as radiolarians thrived in this sea. However, as the sea began to evaporate, these plankton-like animals opalized as they absorbed various minerals from the retreating waters. Iron oxide-rich waters are responsible for the pink to red colors seen in Australian pink opal. The deeper the color, the more iron oxide is present.

How is Australian Pink Opal Mined?
Mookaite mining in Australia traces its history to the mid-1960’s. Traditionally, the majority of mining is conducted by specimen miners. Three independent specimen miners hold leases over the Mooka Creek locality. The Binthalya prospect, where pink opal is found, falls under one of these licenses. Pink opal was first identified around 2011, making this a relatively new find not widely seen in the market.

Mining occurs in open pits, as the material is typically found just below the surface of the earth. The surface materials are alluvium composed of sand, dirt, and gravel from a nearby creek. Heavy machines like bulldozers are employed to move the top layer of ground, making the gemstones easier to reach. Using hand tools, alongside jackhammers, excavation of slabs occurs. These pink opal slabs will later be cut into smaller sizes, and roughly shaped for a final polishing into gorgeous gemstones.
Ranks 6.0 to 7.0 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

• Australian pink opal displays regimented bands of color, from pink to magenta.

• Sourced from Binthalya prospect of Western Australia, Australia.

• Australian pink opal does not undergo additional enhancement.

• Pink opal is the trade name for pink mookaite. Mookaite may also be known as porcellanite.

Australian pink opal is actually opalized radiolarite. For reference, radiolarite is a type of sedimentary rock, whereas opal is hydrated silica.

Mookaite
Meaning & Energy
Mookaite has energies that enrich one’s trust and love for Mother Earth and all of her beauty. One will find themselves more aware of nature and life around them, as well as developing a connection with the animals we see each day, both wild and domestic. Mookaite grounds your mind, heart, and soul down to a planetary level and helps one truly live in the moment. To do this, one must relinquish any and all ideas that do not deal with the “right now”. These future emotions that we’re subconsciously manifesting take their toll on our bodies day in and day out. Fear, anxiety, loneliness, and depression are all common symptoms of failing to live in the present moment. Mookaite’s bold and bright natural colors are a reminder that beauty is all around you, including within. Use the energies and the lessons this stone offers (through deep meditation), and one will soon learn how to “stop and smell the roses”. This mentality will not only save your emotional body, but also give you the chance to grow each day, no matter the circumstances.

Gateway Crystals
Mookaite is also a fantastic secondary crystal to aid in the opening of your solar plexus chakra. This gateway houses one of our most desirable traits as human beings, our own personal will and determination. When one has access (and control) over this part of their bodies, there is no limitation on what can be achieved in this world. Meditate with Mookaite in conjunction with primary solar plexus crystals such as Orange Calcite, Mahogany Obsidian, Citrine, Tiger Eye, Imperial Topaz, and Brucite.

Science & Origin of Astrophyllite
Astrophyllite is a very rare potassium, iron, titanium, manganese, sodium, silicate mineral. It crystallizes in the form of fine-bladed crystals that sometimes display a “starburst” aggregate. It was originally discovered in 1844 in Laven Island, Norway by Paul Christian Weibye. After that, it wasn’t officially welcomed into the scientific community until 10 years later, when Carl Johan August Theodor Scheerer officially named it “Astrophyllite”. He chose this in reference to its physical characteristics as well as the Greek words “Astron” and “Phyllon”, meaning “star” and “leaf”. Astrophyllite can only be found in a few countries worldwide, with the majority of specimens coming out of Russia, Greenland, China, Norway, and the United States.

Astrophyllite looks very similar to the minerals Nuummite and Arfvedsonite. The colors are very similar, as all the crystals above offer metallic lusters of blues, oranges, and coppers. The best way to identify and differentiate Astrophyllite is to look for tiny striations throughout a dark brown or black matrix. Furthermore, due to the number of minerals within this stone, it is always heavier (and rarer) than Nuummite and Arfvedsonite

Meaning & Energy
Astrophyllite is one of those multidimensional stones that helps one connect and achieve attunement to realms beyond our own understanding. Through deep meditation and trust with this stone, one is able to take their spiritual journey to completely new heights. Your entire chakra column readjusts and realigns itself when one engages their energies with that of Astrophyllite. Inner balance will become easily achievable, and a deeper focus will provide clarity of our membrane. As you begin to open your mental capacity up and accept higher forms of knowledge, one must understand their internal vibration will never be the same! Your entire essence and aura will evolve, allowing you to excel much further than others here on planet Earth. Through this stone, one will finally understand what internal trust and self-love mean. Astrophyllite’s energies cannot connect to closed minds and only offers growth to those fully accepting of its energies. Close your eyes, open your mind, and allow Astrophyllite to strengthen your spiritual connection to the unknown!

Science & Origin of Carnelian
Carnelian is an orange/reddish variety of Chalcedony (but can also be found nearly all black) and is one of the most popular members of the Quartz family. It comes from the medieval Latin word Corneolus which is in reference to the Cornelian cherry, a plant species native to southern Europe. Carnelian can be found all over the world, with civilizations throughout history proving that to us today! Most of the Carnelian specimens on the market come out of Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, and India.

Carnelian Vs. Sard
Carnelian and Sard are nearly identical, with Sard being the harder and darker in color of the two. It seems that the names arise from different cultures discovering and naming this stone. However, both terms are still used today. There is no exact defining characteristic of the two, generally though, the rougher and denser pieces of this Chaledoney are referred to as Sard.

Historical Uses
Carnelian has been one of the most widely used stones throughout history from Napoleon to the Prophet Muhammed. In Egyptian times, the deceased would be adorned with a Carnelian necklace symbolizing the Blood of Isis and their protection into the afterlife. During the Japanese Iron Age (300 A.D.) the deceased were found with Carnelian amulets around their necks. The 29th chapter of the book of the dead in Egypt is notably inscribed in a tablet of Carnelian. Both Napoleon I and II wore a seal of Carnelian during their ruling. Furthermore, the prophet Muhammed was said to have worn a ring of Carnelian on the little finger of his right hand.

There is a reason why Carnelian has been used for so long and by so many different cultures. The strength and energy that this stone possesses is of remarkable quality and must be personally experienced to fully appreciate. When our lower 3 chakras become activated by Carnelian our personal will will kick into overdrive. Courage, power, and passion are a few traits that will be pulled into the forefront when working with this stone.

Carnelian
Great leaders and Kings saw the true power within Carnelian and used this stone to channel their strongest ideas. Look at what the world is today, due to Carnelian’s influence over these titans of society. In today’s day in age, we are all our own personal Kings, Queens, and Gods. We have the choice to express our own ideologies and channel the fire inside. The thoughts and goals that we could have only dreamed of can now come to life. It is your personal decision as to whether or not you plan to conjure them and allow them to take root in this reality!

Meaning & Energy
Among our lower chakra system is a form of energy that defines us as who we are. This energy is housed in our groin area and is responsible for conjuring life itself. We refer to this as our “sexual energy”, but its power goes far beyond the act itself. Sometimes withholding our sexual energy and transmuting it for our own good is more beneficial than releasing it for your own personal gratification. Harness this energy and channel it into things most important to you rather than just people. There are countless examples of great scholars and ideologists that have used sexual transmutation to create life-altering ideas, Nikola Tesla being our favorite.

Carnelian is the key to accessing this energy nearly instantaneously. It assists in strengthening our transmutation process as we continue to manifest our dreams and desires. Meditate with this stone directly over your groin area to better enhance and increase the flow of energy coming from our most sacred chakra.

Creativity With No Bounds
Creation comes from a freedom of expression with no bounds. Colors, details, and symbolism all flow through your mind and body when working with this stone. These can be easily expressed on a canvas or through music, art, sports, and anything that puts positive energy back into this world. In our eyes that is the true definition of creation. Place Carnelian in workspaces where you or your team harness ideas that turn into a reality. This invigorating stone stimulates our creativity center and pushes our inner child to the surface. This innocent being contains a life force energy capable of bringing anything you dream to light! Allow yourself to release full control and let this inner spirit take over and grant you the truest of experiences that you deserve.

Mostly inspired by OxanaCrafts tutorial, but took bits and pieces of a few.
