My birthday is 5 months from today. I'll be 45. Since the start of the new year, I keep thinking "well we are on the second half, the downward slope" haha.
Why? Why, do I keep thinking about that?
Technically, today could be the last day.
Too morbid?

This original painting I actually liked and thought about keeping. But I had to follow the rules of this series - If the painting hadn't found a home in 2024, it had to be torn up and remade.
I think people would be surprised at how many artists give themselves "rules" in creating. I enjoy them. The restraints force me to come up creative solutions.
What about you? You like "rules" in art?

Are we supposed to pick favorites? This one would be my favorite from this new series. I love the diversity of the colors and shapes.
This was the fourth piece I created and it really got me excited to keep going.
What do you think? Do you have a favorite?

I want to make a statement about past hurts and disappointments. I want my artwork to always have a glimmer of HOPE. Isn't that what we all want/need right now.

As we move into hurricane season. I don't love the destruction, but I do enjoy watching in awe the power of the sea.

That is the biggest reason why I paint what I paint. To be in awe of the power of the wind and waves and contemplate their Creator.

Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm and they were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” - Matthew 8

GREEN PORT BOUND - 36”x48” Acrylic on Canvas

Lately, I've been researching my family history and discovering more about my relatives from Greenport, NY.
I found out that my great grandfather worked as a painter at the Greenport Shipyard in the early 1900s. His job was to paint the fishing, military, and merchant marine boats that were constructed at the Greenport Shipyard.

Waiting, Missing, Hoping, Thinking... at the rail.

I was thinking about fishermen and their thoughts while waiting for their haul to return. Looking out over the horizon, are they thinking of home, or dreams of the future? It’s a universal feeling, looking out to the ocean. Since men could explore the ocean they have looked to the horizon and dreamt of what’s to come.
