RECYCLE with Us!! ♻️

Visiting the Zoo? We recycle your old:

🖨Ink cartridges
📱Small electronics, like cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, and cameras

Our Zookeeper AAZK Chapter is raising money from both of these recycling projects! Proceeds help provide enrichment for the zoo animals and support conservation organizations to protect their wild cousins!

You can drop off items at the Zoo Entrance Booth or Park Office during business hours. Not local? Check out the flyer to ship your ink cartridges for free and still support the zoo!

What SHAPE are your Pupils? 👁

If you're a goat, the answer would be rectangles! This unique shape gives goats a broader field of vision, an important trait for an animal with a lot of predators. Even better, these rectangular pupils remain parallel to the ground, even when the goat has its head down while grazing. This movement is called cyclovergence, and it allows them to maintain their panoramic vision even while chowing down on their supper!

LOOK! A turkey! 🦃
Nope, not a turkey.

A peacock? 🦚
Nope, not a peacock, either!

Do you know the name of this commonly misidentified bird? Endemic to Africa, this species has been introduced to countries around the world! Like peafowl, you are most likely to see them on the ground, but they will roost in the trees at night. Known for eating large quantities of ticks, these birds are found in groups and are very noisy when disturbed! Their name comes from the bony "helmet" on the top of their heads.

They are often seen wandering the front of the Zoo and taking dust baths, as seen in the photo. Have you spotted our flock at the zoo? 👀

🚨LAST CHANCE🚨
Help Us Name Our Baby Zebra! 🦓
We’ve welcomed a new zebra foal this summer — a sweet female, born July 17th. We need your help choosing her name!

The zookeepers have narrowed it down to these three names:
✨ Gloria
✨ Gemma
✨ Terra

📍 Vote online at cmczoo.com or at our zoo entrance — every vote counts!
💖 All vote donations go directly toward the care and feeding of our animals.
