What happens when a group of guys who are crazy about all things Halloween spend too much time together…they decide to do a haunted house. That’s exactly what happened to us. After several years of brainstorming, attending trade shows and conferences, and travelling across this great country to visit some of the best haunts in the world, in June of this year we came together collectively to create
Spoon River Haunts. Through each of our unique professions, our paths have crossed and we realized we all had this strange fascination with Halloween and haunted houses. We all bring different talents to our adventure that we believe will lead to a great haunted attraction. Our company is led by Jed Rhoades, a local funeral director and Realtor, Matt Keets, owner of a local construction company and Paramedic, and Bill Ayers, an unbelievable artist and manager of a local monument company. Our main focus each year will be on providing a quality haunted house that attracts thousands of people from across Central Illinois to our great community. We hope to create strong and lasting partnerships with local civic organizations, high school drama clubs, college theater departments, volunteer fire departments, sports teams, and other community associations who are interested in fundraising efforts for their respective groups. As in any business, ours must produce income to be successful. However, our focus has been and will continue to be, on investing in our community and supporting our neighbors, friends, and families. We are thrilled to announce that our first production, There is Death Within These Walls, will be held this fall, October 16, 17, 23, 24, 29, 30, & 31. The haunted house will be located at the old Heilig Meyers building, at 1607 East Chestnut Street. We will be open each evening from 7-11 p.m. and we will announce a children’s matinee at a later date.
