’Twas the Night Before the Canton Greek Fest
’Twas the night before Greek Fest, and all through the town,
Excitement was building as folks gathered ’round.
The gyros were waiting, the baklava stacked,
And volunteers smiled as they finished the last act.
The dancers stood ready in costumes so bright,
Dreaming of syrtos and kalamatianos all night.
The grills would soon sizzle with souvlaki and lamb,
While cooks shared old recipes passed down through the fam.
The pastry room sparkled with treats to behold,
Galaktoboureko and desserts worth their weight in gold.
Loukoumades dripping with honey so sweet,
Promised tomorrow’s guests a delicious Greek treat.
The church stood majestic beneath the moon’s glow,
Awaiting the tours that would start with the show.
Its icons and history, culture and faith,
Ready to welcome each guest through its gates.
The courtyard was set and the tables aligned,
For neighbors and friends of every kind.
The kids’ playground waited, the silent auction too,
With cooking demos and cultural exhibits in view.
Then out on the grounds there arose such a cheer,
As volunteers knew that Greek Fest was near.
Three days of music, dancing, and fun,
From opening hour till the day was done.
DJs and musicians would soon take the stage,
While Hellenic dancers delighted every age.
And when Saturday evening finally drew near,
Fireworks would light up the sky with Greek cheer.
So whether you come for the food or the song,
For fellowship, culture, or dancing along,
We’ll welcome you warmly, both family and friend—
“Happy Greek Fest to all, and OPA! let the celebration begin!”
