Lewis Street Playhouse - Canton, MO

Lewis Street Playhouse - Canton, MO Lewis Street Playhouse, first known as the Miller-Starr Opera House, was built in 1893 at 405 Lewis Street in Canton.

The facility hosted traveling stage performances in the 1800s and early 1900s, then later functioned as a movie theater. After standing vacant since the early 1980s, the Canton Area Arts Council began plans in 2005 to revitalize the facility, and work was completed on the beautiful art deco building in 2008.

FREE TO A GOOD HOME! 🎹

We are parting with this piano because the building it is currently housed in is being sold, and we unfortunately cannot take it with us. Includes the matching piano bench!

It is a great instrument with plenty of life left in it, but please note the following details before messaging:

Condition: Good cosmetic condition, but it will need to be tuned once moved to its new home.

Logistics: You must arrange all moving and transportation. It is heavy (as all pianos are), so please bring enough muscle, a truck/trailer, and proper moving equipment (dollies, straps, etc.).

Location/Access: Located in the Lewis Street Playhouse in Canton, MO. Fairly easy access to alleyway entrance, so limited maneuvering.

We want this to go to someone who will use and appreciate it! First come, first served.

Serious inquiries only. Please PM with the day and time you are available to come pick it up.

Join us on June 20. See info below for ticket prices and where to get them.

After 20 wonderful years of cinema and community, the Board of Directors of the Lewis Street Playhouse announces that we will no longer operate the movie theater located at 405 Lewis Street on June 30, 2026. The Lewis Street Playhouse organization will continue under the umbrella of the Canton Area Arts Council, with an eye toward future endeavors.

What began in 2006 as a renovation project blossomed into two decades of family entertainment. While we have strived to keep the magic of the theater alive, the evolving landscape of rising licensing costs, early streaming releases, and increasing overhead has made operations challenging.

We owe our longevity to the incredible businesses and individuals of Canton who "always said yes" when we reached out for support. Your generosity was our lifeblood. We also extend our sincere thanks to Swank Motion Pictures for their years of partnership. We have also appreciated our partnership with Jim Crenshaw, the theater's owner.

We invite you to join us for our final curtain calls:

May 29 & 30: Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Movie

June 20: Molly Brown Revival (Hosted by Canton Main Street)

Thank you for letting us be part of your lives for the last 20 years! We are not saying goodbye, but instead, until we meet again
