**Give Your Partner Time to Respond**

Partner dancing isn't supposed to be a race to the next step.

Leaders, communicate what you want and then be patient. Give your partner time to receive the information and respond to it.

Followers often feel like they're "under the gun" to react quickly or risk being behind. That pressure can actually encourage them to anticipate instead of waiting to feel the lead.

Followers, give yourself permission to wait. Don't move simply because you recognize what you think is coming next. Instead of letting your eyes tell you what to do, practice listening through the connection. Let what you feel from your partner guide your response.

Leaders communicate.
Followers listen and respond.
And both partners give that process time to happen.

That's where lead and follow really starts to feel like a partnership.

It's easy to hear the words โ€œprivate lessonโ€ and picture a serious dancer working on advanced technique or preparing for a competition.

But private lessons aren't just for advanced dancers.

In fact, they can be an **incredible way to start.**

A private lesson gives you one-on-one time with an instructor who can teach at your pace, answer your questions, and focus specifically on what *you* want to accomplish.

That might mean preparing for your wedding, becoming more comfortable on a social dance floor, improving something you've been struggling with, or simply learning your very first basic step.

Private doesn't mean advanced.

It means **personalized.**

And that can be valuable whether you've been dancing for ten years or ten minutes. ๐Ÿ˜„

๐ŸŽถ MEET THE DANCES: FOXTROT

Smooth, stylish, and wonderfully adaptable, Foxtrot is a classic partner dance that never feels stuck in the past!

Foxtrot uses walking steps and flowing movement to carry dancers around the floor. It is commonly associated with big-band music and artists like Frank Sinatra and Michael Bublรฉ, but it can also be danced to plenty of modern songs. Its relaxed character makes it fun, social, and approachable for new dancers.

Want to meet Foxtrot for yourself?

Our Foxtrot class meets Mondays at 6:15 PM, and you can join us at any time! Each class is designed so you can jump in and learn, even if you werenโ€™t with us the week before. No previous dance experience or partner is required.

**Behind the Scenes: Why We Encourage Students to Repeat Classes**

You've already taken the class once. Why take it again?

Because the second time through isn't really the same class.

The first time you learn something, a lot of your attention may simply be focused on figuring out where your feet go and remembering what comes next.

Come back to that same material again and suddenly you have more room to focus on the timing, your lead or follow, how the patterns connect, or the little details you may not have even noticed the first time.

That's also why our classes are designed to accommodate dancers at different levels. Two students can be working on the exact same material while focusing on completely different parts of their dancing.

We don't expect you to take a class once, check it off the list, and move on.

Take it again. Ask different questions. Work on different details. Give the information time to settle in.

Because repeating a class doesn't mean you didn't learn it the first time.

It means you're ready to learn more from it.

And that's why we encourage students to repeat classes. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ

๐Ÿ’ก R&J Dance Tip
**Practice the Transitions**

Knowing two patterns is one thing.

Being able to comfortably move from one to the other is another.

When you practice, don't only repeat individual patterns. Practice how you get into them, how you get back out, and where those transitions happen within the counts.

Counts give you labels for the timing and make it easier to track where one pattern ends and the next begins.

Smooth transitions are what start turning separate patterns into actual dancing.
