Congratulations, Misty and Terry Roudebush!

Sometimes things have a funny way of working out exactly as they're supposed to.

A little over two months ago, I was scheduled to DJ a wedding in Norwalk on June 6. When that wedding canceled, the date suddenly opened up on my calendar. Three weeks ago, Misty reached out and filled the vacancy. We met for the first time just three days before the wedding, and I didn't meet Terry until last night. Despite the short timeline, everything came together beautifully.

From the moment I sat down with Misty, I could tell this wedding was going to be different. There was no desire to overcomplicate things or turn the day into a production. Instead, Misty and Terry embraced a simple philosophy that many couples could learn from: less is more. They focused on what mattered, trusted the process, and allowed the day to unfold naturally. The result was a wedding that felt relaxed, genuine, and completely centered on the people and relationships that brought everyone together.

The celebration took place at A Cord of Three in Hanoverton, and what a remarkable venue it is. Set inside a beautifully restored nineteenth-century schoolhouse, it is filled with character, history, and charm. It was my first opportunity to work there, and I spent much of the evening admiring what they have created. I sincerely hope last night was the first of many weddings I have the privilege of DJing there.

Misty and Terry, thank you for trusting me with such an important day on such short notice. It was a joy watching everything come together and seeing how effortlessly the two of you enjoyed every moment.

At the end of every wedding, I have a tradition. Before I pack up, I always take a photo with the newlyweds, but it has been a difficult weekend getting those photos. 😅 i didn't get the chance to take a photo with my couple on Friday night at all. Then, last night, when it came time for that picture, I went looking for Terry and couldn't find him anywhere. Whether he was saying goodbye to family, helping clean up, or simply vanished into the night remains a mystery. Fortunately, Misty was much easier to locate, so last night's photo was a moment shared between DJ and bride alone.

Congratulations again, Terry and Misty! I wish you both a lifetime of laughter, happiness, and countless wonderful memories together. ❤️

Tonight, I am DJing the first of five 2026 weddings at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Youngstown.

It's funny to me how I can go so long without working a venue—my last wedding here at Riverside was in 2022—and then work it so many times in one season.

This is the summer of Youngstown, I guess. I also have weddings this year at The Lake Club, Provence Mills, and B&O Station, as well as weddings in Canfield, Warren, Niles, and Austintown...maybe one across state lines, too; I am currently talking with a future bride in Hermitage, PA.

JJ and Taylor,

After 28 years and hundreds upon hundreds of weddings, it becomes increasingly difficult to surprise me.

You two managed it anyway.

Your wedding at The Stables at 1885 Farms was one of the most unusual, creative, entertaining, and downright fun celebrations I have ever had the privilege of being part of. Part festival, part carnival, part backyard chill, it featured bubbles, piĂąatas, karaoke, canoes, a magician, a caricaturist, and a canine ring bearer. And a two man, Best Men toast that had me still laughing out loud long after it had finished. Every time I turned around, something unexpected was happening. And somehow, despite having enough moving parts to fill an entire wedding season, everything felt authentically and unmistakably you.

Then there was JJ's mother-son dance.

When I first saw the song choices on paper, I admit I had questions. Beginning with Ludacris's "Move B****" as she hilariously chased Taylor away before transitioning into Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings," it sounded like one of those ideas that could either become legendary or spectacularly miss the mark. Without question, it landed exactly as intended. The room erupted with laughter, the comedic timing was perfect, and it became one of those wedding moments that guests will still be talking about years from now.

And while we're discussing highlights, I have to mention the cupcakes. In nearly three decades of weddings, I have eaten more wedding cake than any human being reasonably should. Those cupcakes may have been the best dessert I have ever had at a wedding. Ever.

I also need to give a shoutout to JJ's sister. In all my years in this industry, I have never had any desire to hire employees. Not once. But if she lived in Ohio instead of Michigan, I would have made an exception without hesitation. Her dream job is to DJ, and after spending time with her, I can confidently say she has the personality, energy, confidence, charisma, and musical knowledge to pull it off. She is cool as hell, and our industry could use more people like her.

Most importantly, though, this day was about the two of you. Your wedding was joyful, unconventional, unforgettable, and overflowing with personality. It was a celebration that refused to fit neatly into a box, and it was all the better because of it.

Thank you for trusting me to be part of such an incredible day. If someone manages to top this wedding before the end of the year, I'll be genuinely shocked.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Lawley. What a wedding. What a party. What a start to your next chapter!

Some love stories begin with a swipe, a chance encounter, or a lucky introduction. Payton and Hayden Herman's began in the second grade.

From childhood friends to twelve-year-old sweethearts to husband and wife, their story is the kind that reminds everyone why people still believe in true love. Watching the two of them together on Friday at The Barn of Canal Fulton, it was impossible not to smile. They are absolutely adorable together, and more importantly, they are so clearly meant for one another. The way they look at each other, laugh together, and move through the world as a team speaks volumes about the relationship they have built over the years.

A special mention also has to go to Payton's father, who delivered what may very well be the Father of the Bride Toast of the Year. Funny, heartfelt, sincere, and unforgettable—it was the perfect tribute to his daughter and her new husband. And the late-night Taco Bell run? An inspired decision that was met with the enthusiasm of a crowd that had danced every ounce of energy out of themselves.

Payton and Hayden, your reception was every bit as memorable as your love story. The dance floor never stopped. Not for a song. Not for a break. Not for a breather. For more than three hours, guests packed themselves into one massive dance circle and celebrated alongside you with the kind of energy wedding DJs dream about. It was one of those rare nights where nobody wanted the party to end.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of such an incredible day. Your wedding was filled with joy, laughter, family, friendship, and a dance floor that simply would not quit. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Herman. After all these years, your next chapter is finally here, and I couldn't be happier for the two of you!

Congratulations to Nicholas and Mila Haas on an absolutely beautiful wedding celebration this past Saturday at The Barn at Enchanted Acres in Dennison, Ohio.

There was something wonderfully unforced about your wedding day. No one was trying too hard. No moment felt manufactured. The laughter was real, the conversations lingered, the dance floor grew naturally instead of being pushed into existence, and the entire celebration carried the kind of emotional ease that couples spend months hoping their wedding will have. It felt less like a production and more like a room full of people genuinely happy to share in something meaningful.

And once the party truly took off, this crowd came alive. The dance floor stayed in constant motion, the energy never dipped, and every transition seemed to pull more people into the celebration instead of away from it. Those are the weddings DJs remember long after the speakers are packed away and the lights come down.

Nicholas and Mila, thank you for trusting me to be part of such an important day in your lives. You, your families, your guests, and the atmosphere you created made Saturday one I will remember for a very long time. Wishing you both a lifetime filled with peace, laughter, joy, adventure, and the kind of partnership that makes ordinary days feel meaningful and fabulous. Lots of love and best wishes to you both! ❤️

Congratulations to Joe and Ashley Mitchell! Thank you for trusting me with such an important day in your lives!

Ashley, your smile lit up the room all evening long, and Joe, the way you looked at her said everything that needed to be said. There was such a calm sincerity between the two of you that people could genuinely feel. Weddings are often remembered for timelines, details, and decorations, but the celebrations people carry with them years later are the ones where love feels authentic, comfortable, and real, and the two of you created exactly that kind of atmosphere for everyone fortunate enough to share the day with you.

Thank you for your kindness, your trust, your patience, and the way you treated everyone around you throughout the night. Couples like you are the reason I still love what I do after all these years. It was an honor to celebrate alongside you both, and I truly hope Friday night was everything you hoped it would be and more! ❤️

Congratulations to April and Travis Kuttler on an absolutely unforgettable wedding celebration last night. After nearly three decades of DJing weddings, I can honestly say the two of you are among the kindest, most compassionate couples I have ever had the privilege of working with. From the moment the evening began, there was this incredible sense of warmth surrounding your celebration, not only between the two of you, but among your guests. They reflected the same joy, kindness, and sincerity that you both carry so naturally, and it created the kind of atmosphere that reminds me why I still love weddings as much as I do all these years later.

Last night was personally difficult for me in a number of ways. The heat and conditions early in the evening affected me physically in ways I have never experienced before. I was suffering from heatstroke, and for a short time, I was unsure that I would be able to finish the wedding. I DJed through it, doing my best to give you the wedding you deserved, but I was so incredibly frustrated with myself. I never want anything less than my absolute best for my couples, especially on a day as important as their wedding day.

I can not express how grateful I am for the way the two of you responded—with patience, concern, encouragement, understanding, and genuine care. Instead of adding pressure, you continually showed grace. You checked on me, supported me, and cared for me in so many ways. I cannot adequately express how much that meant to me in the moment, and how much it still means to me this morning as I reflect on last night's performance.

Fortunately, by the time the dance floor officially opened, I was feeling more like myself. The temperature had fallen, I had been able to sit, cool down, and hydrate. And with the arrival of the dancing portion of the evening, your crowd came ALIVE. The energy completely exploded in the best possible way, and suddenly the room transformed into one of the most fun celebrations I have been part of this year. The dance floor stayed full, the smiles never ended, and the joy in the room reached heights I seldom experience when DJing.

April and Travis, thank you not only for trusting me with your wedding celebration, but for showing me such extraordinary kindness and humanity throughout the evening. I am humbled by your compassion. I am supposed to take care of my couples; never has one of my couples had to take care of me. I will remember your wedding always. The two of you reminded me how meaningful compassion can be when someone truly needs it most. ❤️

Congratulations to Mike and McKenzie Bishop!

Some weddings feel less like a production and more like being welcomed into the middle of something genuine, and that was exactly the feeling Saturday night. . From the very beginning of the evening, they carried themselves with this calm, easygoing energy that quietly spread through the entire room. Nothing felt forced or rushed. They laughed easily, stayed completely present with one another, and somehow managed to make every guest feel like they were part of something personal instead of simply attending another wedding reception. As a DJ, you notice those things immediately, because they change the atmosphere of an entire night.

What I loved most about Mike and McKenzie was how naturally thoughtful they were with everyone around them. They took time for people. They listened when guests spoke to them. They looked genuinely happy every single moment I saw them together, whether they were standing in the middle of the dance floor, talking quietly with family members, or just stealing little glances at one another during the reception. There was so much warmth in that room Saturday night, and it never felt manufactured or overplanned. It simply felt real.

Mike and McKenzie, thank you for trusting me to be part of such an incredible evening. Your kindness, your sense of humor, your gratitude, and the way you cared for the people around you made your celebration unforgettable for everyone in attendance, including me. I truly had an amazing time DJing your wedding! Congratulations again to the both of you, and I hope married life continues to feel every bit as joyful, relaxed, and full of love as your wedding day did.

There is a very specific moment at almost every wedding when a guest walks up to the DJ booth with absolute confidence and says:

“You know what you should play?”

And I always smile, because what comes next could be literally anything.

Sometimes it’s a genuine classic. Sometimes it’s a song that clears dance floors faster than a fire alarm. Sometimes it’s a deep cut nobody has heard since sophomore year gym class in 1987. Sometimes it is a song I've already played. And sometimes, somehow, it’s a request for a song that is currenty playing (I'm not kidding).

But here’s the funny part most people never realize:

Wedding DJs are basically part music curator, part air traffic controller, part therapist, part chaos manager, and part sociologist with a microphone.

We’re watching the bridesmaids lose their voices singing throwbacks. We’re monitoring whether grandma is still dancing. We’re timing the exact second the bar line disappears. We’re trying to decide whether the room needs Pitbull, Shania, Biggie, ABBA, GaGa, or one emotional singalong that unites 150 people who otherwise have absolutely nothing in common.

And somehow…when it all clicks…complete strangers end up dancing together like old friends.

That’s still my favorite part.

Not the food.
Not the open bar.
Not even the music itself.

It’s watching a room full of different ages, personalities, families, and friend groups slowly become one shared memory for a few hours.

Even after hundreds and hundreds of weddings, that part never gets old.

And tonight, I am doing it again. This time in Newton Falls. Time to prepare for another evening of people requesting songs that are already playing. 🎧😂

I haven't posted much this week because I have been working on my website.

I will be moving my website to Wix in just a few weeks. Google Sites has worked well enough these past several years, but Google has many limitations that are becoming more and more problematic as my business grows. Plus, I have always disliked the look of my website when viewed on a mobile device. Wix solves all of this nicely.

But, this being me, I am not simply copying and pasting the current site into a Wix template. I have been updating the site—effectively creating an entirely new site—while learning how to use Wix at the same time.

The payoff will be huge, but blogging and social media will be sparse until the website is complete.
