A 56-year-old man died in Renton on Oct. 28 as a result of a shooting at a bank.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, 56-year-old James Tatum died in Renton as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. The medical examiner’s office identified the manner of Tatum’s death as homicide.

Renton police dispatched to the 100 block of Logan Avenue South at approximately 3:16 p.m. Oct. 28 after receiving a call regarding a gunshot wound victim.

According to the department, detectives say an 18-year-old Renton man, Tatum’s son, approached two 23-year-old Renton residents. Tatum’s son thought the two residents had stolen his vehicle keys earlier in the evening.

Tatum approached and joined the altercation after the 18-year-old forcibly attempted to locate the vehicle keys, according to the department. Video footage of the incident shows Tatum moving off-screen prior to the firing of a shot.

Tatum’s son fled and a second person, Tatum’s 23-year-old daughter, fired her weapon. Detectives say at least two individuals fired fi****ms in the incident.

First responders treated Tatum at the scene for injuries received in the shooting. Tatum died at the scene.

Detectives arrived at the scene, recovering four weapons — two from each party. Detectives interviewed all involved parties including several witnesses, according to Black’s email.

Investigators continue to wait for ballistics testing results to determine who fired the fatal shot, according to the department.

“This is a complex investigation with many parts,” stated the department’s social media.
