“Antique Row” in downtown Canoga Park, California. Originally, a movie house that was destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the Madrid Theatre has become a partner and a creative center for the surrounding cultural district. Our goal is to create a nurturing and affordable performance space that is dedicated to promoting diversity and creating a culturally rich environment to live, work and play.

MEET THE DANCERS OF ECHOES IN PLACE...
Amita Batra is a story-driven artist who wholeheartedly believes in the boundless nature of art with respect to those both who practice it and those who consume it.
Formally rooted in Kathak, the Indian classical art of storytelling and balletic styles, Amita is an explorer of the technical intersect between the two with an emphasis on using movement as a language for universal storytelling. In addition to dance, Amita thoroughly enjoys character work and improv, using humanity in its totality to inform body language and storytelling.

MEET THE DANCERS OF ECHOES IN PLACE...
Naomi Namboodiripad is a multi-disciplinary artist whose talents span the worlds of dance, choreography, film, and music.

As an artist, Naomi brings a unique range of expertise encompassing both her Indian and American identities. She has trained in Bharatnatyam, an Indian classical dance form, for over 15 years under Guru Venkatesh Iyer, under whom she has also learned Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, and Folk styles. Having been raised in America, Naomi has also trained in various Western styles. She received training in ballet from Princeton Ballet School and Martin Center for Dance and has studied jazz, contemporary, and street styles through college and various intensives.

As a professional, she has performed on stages in projects including Aatma’s preview of Finding Home: An Indian Musical, Desi Dance Fest 3.0 with Sonali Bhaduria, Raja Kumari’s 2023 Tour in Bowery Ballroom, and Columbia MFA Program’s White B*tches in Delhi. She has also appeared in music videos including Black Hibiscus’s “You, Me, and Her” and Vaibu Mohan’s “Sati: A Goddess Reincarnate”.

MEET THE DANCERS OF ECHOES IN PLACE...
Nandini Kannan is a versatile artist who performs and creates intentional movement and riveting pieces that inspire communities to honor and heal their minds, bodies, and spirits. Nandini's performance quality is rooted in storytelling and emotion. Nandini has trained in the dance form of Bharatanatyam for 25 years under Ramya Harishankar of the Arpana Dance Company. She has actively performed with both the Arpana Dance Company and as a freelance artist in a multitude of venues for both traditional and experimental works involving cross-art collaborations in the last 17 years. She also trains and performs in other styles such as dancehall, heels, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and bollywood. With a background in public health, psychology, arts management, health equity and wellness promotion initiatives, Nandini strives to integrate her multi-disciplinary training to make movement, expression, and art an inclusive and accessible way of healing and well-being for all communities.

MEET THE DANCERS OF ECHOES IN PLACE...
Baylee Ferrerra is a dancer, performer and movement educator based out of Los Angeles, California. With a certification in Pilates and a creative practice based in contemporary dance theater, Baylee’s work is fueled by curiosity with human limitation—physically, emotionally and spiritually—and interest in reflecting our experience with sincerity. Since graduating from California State University of Long Beach with a BFA in dance, she has performed and choreographed for stage, site specific works, concept/music videos, ensemble improvisations and immersive performances throughout California, Las Vegas, Guatemala and Italy.

MEET THE DANCERS OF ECHOES IN PLACE...
Cydney is a researcher and dancer who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Dance from the University of California, Riverside and a Master’s degree in American Dance Studies at Florida State University. She has been a member of several contemporary companies and touring ensembles. She has worked with many wonderful choreographers and showed work in California, Florida, New York, Germany, and Mexico. Her career passions lie with dance, community-building, and youth education and mentorship.
