818CREATES Community Culmination! - The Open Floor, August 8th, 5-8pm.
The Open Floor invites you to an evening of young creatives from the 818 sharing their work and showcasing their creative process.
Enjoy a night of equal parts open mic and creative show-and-tell. The gallery opens at 5pm, and The Open Floor begins at 6pm, featuring poetry, student films, dance, and music! We look forward to seeing you there!

Tomorrow at Taxco Theatre, we open our doors from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for the first of three showings of our gallery installations and artwork by young creatives and the organizations that support them. We celebrate each of them and welcome you to stroll in to enjoy the bold, celebratory work of the 818 Creates: Young Creatives of the Valley.
Featuring the following groups: Boys and Girls Club of the West Valley, LA Public Library - Canoga Park Library and Mid-Valley Library, CSUN/Bridge to the Future, Canoga Park Youth Arts Center, GRYD, Making Movies that Matter, Sun Valley Youth Arts Center, and others.

818CREATES FESTIVAL: COMMUNITY SESSION INVITATION!

818 JAMS: A YOUNG MUSICIANS COMMUNITY JAM SESSION
818 JAMS is a learning-oriented jam where attendees are encouraged to take risks and ask questions; encounter and learn from musicians of diverse experience; and come together to perform while respecting and honoring each other’s journeys and backgrounds. Attendees will also leave knowing how to lead and participate in a jam session environment, equipping them with the tools to host their own jams within their communities, schools, or homes throughout the San Fernando Valley.

Calling all emerging visual and performing artists of the San Fernando Valley!

818 CREATES: Young Creatives Festival invites young artists (16-24) of all disciplines to celebrate their creativity in community from Wednesday, August 5th to Saturday, August 8th at the Taxco Theatre.

818 CREATES aims to shine a spotlight on what many young artists across the Valley are producing in their daily creative practice. The four-day program includes a series of cultural dance showcases, a music jam night, and an immersive gallery installation.

The festival culminates in “The Open Floor,” a mix of open mic and show-and-tell where youth are encouraged to take the stage and share their creative work with the broader community.

Meet our two Taxco Theatre curators of 818 CREATES: Young Creatives Festival, Kiyan Atrian and Dani Nalangan—two passionate advocates for youth expression and community-building in the San Fernando Valley.
Kiyan and Dani bring a wealth of experience and a collaborative spirit to the festival. Their vision centers on providing young artists with opportunities to connect, experiment, and shine, ensuring every participant feels valued and inspired. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to hear from them about how the festival's planning is progressing and the amazing organizations and individuals they are meeting along the way.

Presented by the DCA Performing Arts Division and the Taxco Theatre, this festival celebrates the bold creativity of young artists from the San Fernando Valley. Over four days, you’ll experience cultural dance exchange workshops, a music jam night, immersive gallery installations, and the culminating event, The Open Floor, where young creatives are encouraged to share their work with the larger community.

Inspired by Kathak, the Indian Classical Art of Storytelling, and modern/contemporary dance, we'll explore how rhythm, expression, and movement can bring stories to life-using not only our bodies but also the environment around us.

Supporting an artist’s process means valuing not just the final work, but the journey of exploration, experimentation, and growth that leads to it.
Language of the Cosmos 2026 provided an opportunity for three artist collectives to explore their creative practice through the connections and conversations with the UCLA Space Institute.
