Pachyderm Recording Studio The Midwest premier residential studio. Pachyderm Recording Studio has been home to many local and national bands over the years.

John Kuker purchased the studio in 2011 and spent 4 years renovating the home and studio to its former glory. At its' peak, Pachyderm was home to bands such as Nirvana, Soul Asylum, Jayhawks, Trampled by Turtles, and many many more. Extensive rennovations have been completed to the studio and grounds. John passed away in 2015, just before the big unveiling of all of his hard work of this studio. John's family now owns and operates the studio with help from John's longtime friend Nick Tveitbakk, who is the Studio Manager.

Throwing it back to 1963, when the house that now serves as our artist residence was first built. Designed by Herb Bloomberg as a family home, it stood for 25 years before our studio opened its doors in 1988. The Mensing family named their home Pine Glen, a name it continues to bear to this day.

Remembering Steve Albini on what would have been his 64th birthday.

From our studio manager and chief engineer, Nick:

"He's genuinely my hero. His ethos and the way he moved through both life and this industry is something I've looked up to and tried to model since I was a teenager."

The first photo shows Steve setting up drums in our live room, capturing the signature Pachyderm sound that can be heard on countless recordings. The final photo features the LOMO logo, which Steve installed himself in our live room as a tribute to his favorite microphone manufacturer. During the In Utero sessions, he used a LOMO 19A9 tube condenser microphone to record Kurt Cobain's vocals.

Our 1964 Fender Precision Bass hasn't been inside a case for decades. Not joking. It's always out in the studio, ready for whenever anyone needs a solid, classic sounding bass.
