Love stitching on 13 count? A few tips from Kreinik.
"Which Kreinik Braid size is best for 13-mesh?"
This question comes up a lot, as 13-mesh canvas is popular for needlepoint. The answer: it depends! (See below). As a general rule, however, go for Medium #16 Braid.
1. Kreinik Canvas #24 Braid was created by designer request to give full coverage in tent stitch on 13-mesh canvas. Some stitchers, however, prefer a lighter look and use Medium #16 Braid (which comes in more colors than #24 Braid). So thickness can be a personal preference when stitching.
2. Some colors—with HL, V, L, C or F in the color number—are thicker than basic metallic colors (with no letter in the number). When using these, you may want to go down a Braid size and use Tapestry #12 Braid on 13-mesh. Test on a canvas scrap to see if you are getting the coverage you desire.
3. Medium or Canvas Braid recommendations are for basic stitches. When you are doing decorative stitches, you may need to use thinner Braids.
