A Special Farewell to our Graduating Senior Joelle Wong 🌟

Joelle has distinguished herself as an exemplary leader and role model within our studio community. Through her unwavering dedication, discipline, and character, she has set a standard for others to follow. Watching Joelle develop not only as a dancer, but from a shy little girl into a confident and mature young woman, has been a joy and a privilege.

Joelle’s first ballet class was with me, in September 2013, when she was just five years old. Her first performance was Thumbelina, where she played one of her favorite roles: a ladybug. This year, she takes on another favorite role in our production of The Four Seasons, dancing the lead as Mother Nature. This role has challenged her both artistically and technically; it’s been a thrill to coach her and witness her growth throughout the rehearsal process. Over the years, Joelle has performed many other memorable roles, including the Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, the Winter Fairy in A Winter Wonderland, the Butterfly Queen in Thumbelina, and the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland.

While maintaining the rigorous training of a pre-professional dancer, Joelle also completed a year of teacher training directly with me. She has since become a valued member of our teaching staff, sharing her love of dance with our youngest students. Outside the studio, Joelle enjoys competitive games like Killball and Kajabi, and she volunteers her time in her church band playing keys, guitar, and bass.

Joelle will be graduating with an impressive 4.71 GPA. She has decided to attend M.I.T. in the fall. Having this incredible young woman in my life for so many years has truly been an honor. As she prepares to take her final bow on this stage, I am filled with pride for all she has accomplished and excitement for what lies ahead. I am so grateful for the time we've shared. Please join me in sending Joelle off with love, pride, and heartfelt best wishes for her journey ahead.

-Ms. Crystal

We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Stevens to the AOC Ballet family! ✨

Sarah brings an extraordinary depth of experience to our studio β€” as a former professional ballet dancer in the Bay Area, a certified ABT NTC instructor, a licensed Gyrotonic trainer, and a Classical Pilates instructor. In 2024, she earned the distinction of ABT NTC Fellow, a recognition of her exceptional work preparing students for ballet exams across a wide range of ages and levels.

What makes Sarah's approach truly special is the way she integrates Gyrotonic and Pilates principles into her ballet teaching β€” giving students the tools to build strength, move with intelligence, and develop the kind of physical confidence that lasts a lifetime, on stage and beyond.

Sarah's passion for longevity, joy, and whole-dancer development aligns beautifully with everything we believe in at AOC Ballet. We can't wait for you to experience her classes.

Welcome, Sarah! 🩰

Summer training season is here β€” and there's still time to join us. 🩰

AOC Ballet's Pre-Professional Summer Intensive is still enrolling for dancers ages 9+, and we'd love to have your dancer in the studio this summer.

This isn't a dance camp. It's a full immersive experience β€” daily classical ballet, contemporary, modern, and jazz, plus anatomy, injury prevention, choreography, and performance prep. The intensive wraps with a student-created showcase where dancers present original work on stage.

Rigorous. Body-positive. Built for serious young artists who are ready to go deeper.

Intermediate to advanced dancers ages 11+ are encouraged to apply. Spots are limited β€” link in bio to learn more and register.

Saying goodbye to one of our own β€” and cheering her on every step of the way. πŸ’›

Maria Scott has worn so many hats at AOC Ballet: student, instructor, office administrator, and founder of our Boundless Ballet adaptive dance program. She leaves behind a legacy that will keep shaping this studio long after her.

This fall, Maria heads to Cal State East Bay to pursue a graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Thank you for everything, Maria, and such good luck!

The question we hear most from parents: "How early should my child start ballet?"

Here's our honest answer: it depends on what you mean by "start."

At AOC Ballet, we welcome dancers from age 5 β€” and there's real intention behind that. Classical ballet training asks a lot of a young body and mind. It requires the ability to follow multi-step instruction, to distinguish left from right, to control movement with focus and purpose. These are developmental milestones, not just skills β€” and most children simply aren't ready for them before age 5.

That doesn't mean younger children shouldn't move, explore, and fall in love with dance. It means the opposite. The years before formal training are for joy β€” for spinning in the living room, for feeling music in your whole body, for discovering that movement is magic. That foundation matters deeply.

But when the time is right β€” when a child is ready to listen, to learn, and to begin building something β€” classical ballet offers one of the most complete forms of training a young dancer can receive. Technique, musicality, discipline, body awareness, artistry. All of it, built carefully and thoughtfully from the ground up.

We believe in meeting dancers where they are, and growing them from there. 🩰

Winter/Spring 2026 Boundless Ballet registration is now open! We are excited and honored to offer adaptive dance classes for youth, teen, and adult dancers of all abilities and needs.

At AOCBallet, we believe that dance is for everyone, and we aim to spread the joy of movement and dance through our adaptive dance classes. These inclusive classes are intended for students of all abilities and needs. We have the resources to support dancers with Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, and a range of
physical/cognitive disabilities.

Our instructor, Maria Scott, holds a BA in Dance and Psychology from Gonzaga University. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and enjoys teaching all dancers, but her Boundless students hold a very special place in her heart. Maria helped AOC Ballet create the Boundless Ballet Program and completed Boston Ballet's Adaptive Dance Teacher training program in her preparation.

In our Boundless Ballet classes, we adapt and offer modifications to meet the needs of each dancer in the class. We create a fun, supportive environment with a 1:6 ratio so that each student receives the attention and encouragement that they deserve. We are excited to welcome more dancers to our program: spread the word and sign up through the Campbell Community Center today!
