I never thought of it as poetry.

I thought of it as survival.

I remember sitting on those steps as summer quietly surrendered to fall. The air was changing, and so was something inside me. There was an urgency I couldn’t explain—only feel. Like a caterpillar carrying the quiet certainty that transformation is coming, even before it understands what wings are.

Part of me belonged to the streets. To its politics. Its codes. Its lessons. Those roots will always live in me.

But another part of me was reaching for something beyond the rules I had inherited. I wanted to believe there was another ending waiting to be written.

So I wrote.

Line after line, I emptied my heart onto the page. Writing became more than words—it became possibility. A lottery ticket, not because it promised escape, but because it gave me permission to imagine one.

I never could have imagined where those pages would lead me. Every opportunity, every conversation, every soul I’ve crossed paths with on this journey can be traced back to one moment—to the decision to honor that quiet urgency instead of silence it.

Transformation rarely announces itself with applause.

Sometimes it begins on a set of worn steps, between seasons, with a pen in your hand and a heart brave enough to believe that becoming is possible.

This post is about dedication.
It’s about resilience.
It’s about answering the call to evolve.

If you want to walk the rest of this journey with me, follow along.

I remember creating In My Eyes. Turning an idea into a product is one thing—maybe one of the most important steps—but then comes the question: What’s next?

As I look at this photo holding this poster in 2025, I can’t help but reflect on those very first posters I created and the impact something so simple ended up having on my journey.

When most people think of posters, they think of advertisements. I see them differently. To me, they’re invitations to conversations.

Every poster I hung introduced me to a new store owner. Every flyer I handed out connected me with someone new in the community. While the internet has transformed the way we promote our work, there’s still something powerful about putting up a poster, handing someone a flyer, and making a genuine human connection.

IME has been a journey worth every step. I’ve grown so much since I printed that first poster, and as much as I’m grateful for where it all began, I’m even more excited for the next poster I’m blessed to create.

As I reflect on my poetry, I can always pinpoint the moments when the words flowed effortlessly. Those were the moments I wasn’t chasing perfection—I was simply telling the truth.

These books represent more than finished projects. They symbolize an idea becoming reality. They represent belief, sacrifice, and investing in myself with no promise of a return.

I’ve always been a hustler. I’ve survived some rough seasons. Whether in the streets or in business, there are never guarantees—only the possibility of failure, and the chance to overcome the odds.

Writing has changed me. Life has changed me. Where I come from, change can make people uncomfortable. Some see growth as forgetting where you came from. I see it differently.

In my heart, I’ve always believed I was meant to evolve into who I’m called to be. I’m still becoming. Still learning. Still growing.

My hope is that as I continue this journey, my stories, reflections, and poetry help someone else find the courage to keep going.

My poetry is life.

Like a seed buried beneath the soil, I continue to grow—even when no one can see it.

Words Have Power.

Today, I had the privilege of facilitating Penned in Pennsylvania, a four-hour creative writing workshop that invited students to explore their identities, communities, and experiences through the lens of the place they call home.

What began with thoughtful quotes and meaningful discussion grew into honest journal entries, original poetry, collaborative artwork, and powerful conversations. For four hours, these students remained engaged, curious, and willing to share pieces of themselves.

Watching them discover that their voices matter—and that their stories are part of Pennsylvania’s story—is why I do this work.

Thank you to every student who showed up with an open mind and courageous heart. Your words have the power to inspire, connect, and create change.

Here’s a glimpse behind the scenes—from preparation to the workshop itself.

Today was awesome, I had the opportunity to work with young writers 9-12 at in collaboration with .youth and we had a great time learning about Haiku’s. I was honestly impressed by the young writers especially how they helped one another out. I look forward to our next session. This was an honor to be a part of.

A newspaper feature is great.

Seeing students believe in themselves is even better.

WRITTEN PROOF was built to help youth discover the power of their own voice through writing, storytelling, and spoken word. Through strategic partnerships, we’re creating opportunities for young people to be heard. (TheBurg)

If you’re a school, library, nonprofit, YMCA, after-school program, or youth-serving organization, let’s start a conversation about bringing WRITTEN PROOF to your community.
