💙💛🦅🏅 Congratulations to 3 of our talented SSMS Singers—6th Graders Winter Gilbert, Ki’erickah Hardy, and Silana Saddler— for earning selection to the November 2025 MMEA Mississippi All-State 5th & 6th Grade Elementary Honor Choir, sponsored by the Mississippi Music Educators Association. These gifted Falcon singers were selected along with 178 of their peers statewide. They will study with a renowned conductor in rehearsals, classes, and concerts at the University of Southern Mississippi on November 20-22, 2025.

Several VJHS Singers students recently performed with the USM High School Honor Choir in Hattiesburg on Sept. 15-16, as part of the SICC-Southern Invitational Choral Conference. They rehearsed and sang with peers from multiple states, as they were led by Mississippi native, Dr. Jabarie Glass from the University of Oklahoma. They had a blast!! Memories and great music were made.

Congratulations to our VJHS Falcon Singers who were selected by blind audition to perform in the 2025 MSACDA High School All-State Honor Choirs in Hattiesburg November 20-22!!

SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS to Corbyn Smith who earned the #2 Highest Score for the Tenor 1 Section in the entire state!!! He will be recognized at the All-State Concert as a “Top 5” Award Winner!!! WHAT. AN. HONOR!!! 💙💛🦅🏅

Some Spring Cleaning Shenanigans today…Mr. Hill had to show the “young’uns” he had his “Boots on the Ground,” and two Freshman besties graced us with some impromptu “interpretative dance improv.” A clean loading dock area is an open dance floor….

Congratulations to our VJHS Falcon Singers for earning BEST IN CLASS ENSEMBLE , as well as 3rd Place in the TeamBuilding Category at the Bluff City Choral Festival at Northwest MS CC in Senatobia this past Friday, 04/11. In our very first-ever trip to BCCF, our students performed beautifully, displayed stellar teamwork, & were fantastic ambassadors for our school, zone, district, & communities. They were assessed by nationally renowned judges, Dr. Brandon Boyd, Dr. Julie Yu-Oppenheim, & Dr. Adam Potter, working with Dr. Potter in an on-stage masterclass clinic. Afterward, they rotated through a series of challenging team-building activities in friendly competition against 20 other groups. Special thanks to Amy Touchstone, Terrell Hall, & the entire team for sponsoring such a rewarding and enriching event. We can’t wait for BCCF 2026!!! 💙💛🦅🏅

Congratulations to our very own junior VJHS Singers, Taylor Jones and K’Lei Luckett, for being selected by NATIONAL audition as two of the 112 talented singers from around the country who were named as CS Music National All-State Singers, sponsored by “Classical Singer” Magazine. These young ladies were the only 2 singers selected from the state of Mississippi this year. Both singers auditioned in the Musical Theatre Category. We are so proud!!

Congratulations to the VJ Varsity Singers who earned All-Superior ratings at the Riverland Choral Festival hosted by Pearl Singers at Pearl High School this past weekend! This was the first time VJHS Singers has competed at Riverland, and they brought home some hardware from their first performance. Thank you to Pearl Singers for a hosting a fantastic experience. 💙💛🎵🦅🏅

VJ Varsity Singers traveled today to perform at the Riverland Choral Festival at Pearl High School. Through a great deal of sickness and adversity and a crazy busy week of Veterans Day celebrations and school trips, our students represented the Falcon Zone well.

VJHS & SSMS Singers Director Mr. Joel Hill and fellow MCSD choral directors recently attended the Mississippi Music Educators Association’s annual Fall Workshop for High School & Middle School Choral Directors held on the campus of “Thee” Jackson State University. Sessions were presented by the JSU Music Faculty, and the JSU Chorale performed a few selections, as well.
