Orville is looking pretty impressive from this angle! 🐍

Corn snakes are known for their beautiful patterns and colors, but this up-close view gives you a rare look at the intricate markings along Orville's belly, too. Every snake is unique, and sometimes all it takes is the right angle to appreciate just how amazing they are.

One of the best parts of visiting the Boardwalk is never knowing who you might meet up close. From snakes like Orville to other animal ambassadors, our team loves creating opportunities for guests to connect with our animals in unexpected ways!

Stop by and see which animal might make an appearance during your next visit! 👀 (https://bit.ly/4xdmNMs)

Our African penguins aren't the only ones looking a little scruffy right now... our little blue penguins are joining in on molting season, too! 🐧🪶

Saquon is currently going through his very first catastrophic molt! While he won't get a new feather pattern like Gabby and Shubert, it's still a major milestone. Just like our African penguins, he's replacing all of his feathers at once to make way for a fresh new set.

Before molting, penguins spend extra time eating and bulking up, which is why Saquon is looking especially round these days 😆. And since this is his first molt, he's taking it a little harder than some of our more experienced colony members who have already been through the process.

If you visit this weekend, keep an eye out for Saquon and the other molting penguins! You may spot them wearing a temporary white armband, or in some cases, no armband at all. 💙🐧

And now for Shubert’s moment… 🐧

Just like Gabby, Shubert has also been through his first catastrophic molt! Shubert has had his juvenile feathers for over a year now, and this molt means he’s officially a big grown boy with his adult feather pattern 🥹🖤

It’s always amazing seeing them trade in their “teen” feathers for their full adult look… even if the process comes with a little extra fluff in the meantime 😄🐧

The time has come… Gabby has gone through her very first catastrophic molt!

Each year, our African penguins go through a “catastrophic molt,” where they shed all their feathers at once and grow a fresh set. Before molting, they eat a lot to build fat reserves, which is why Gabby looks a little extra... round 😂 They can’t swim because they are not waterproof during this time, so they stay on land, eat very little, and rely on those reserves until their new feathers grow in!

Gabby has had her juvenile feathers for over a year, and this molt marks an exciting milestone... she now has her adult feather pattern!

Make sure to tell her how cute and grown up she looks 🥹😭

Serving eight-armed perfection. 💅🐙

And yes, arms, not tentacles! While the terms are often used interchangeably, they're actually different. Tentacles are typically longer and have suckers only near the end, while arms have suckers running the entire length. That's why giant Pacific octopuses like Phoenix have eight arms and zero tentacles! 💁‍♀️
