🔒 In Germany, escaping from prison isn’t a separate crime on its own.

Yes, really. But there’s a little more to it than that.

A prisoner who escapes can still be caught and brought back. Their original sentence doesn’t disappear, and they may face discipline inside the prison.

So “you won’t automatically get another criminal charge just for escaping” is more accurate than “escaping is legal.”

⚖️ What happens during the escape matters

Assaulting a guard, damaging property or stealing can lead to additional charges. Helping someone else escape is also punishable under German law.

The German Bar Association explains the history behind this unusual distinction through a familiar idea: the human desire to be free.

That helps explain why the act of escaping is treated differently. It doesn’t give anyone permission to hurt people, break things or walk away from their sentence.

It’s an interesting legal detail—but definitely not a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Amateur MMA fighter Cole “Wavy” Johnson got people talking when he claimed he could win a fight against a chimp.

Johnson, who is associated with City Kickboxing in New Zealand, does have experience in the cage. Tapology lists a 1–0 amateur record, with a win by unanimous decision over Harlem Frost in December 2025.

But a chimpanzee? That claim took the conversation somewhere else entirely.

A promotional countdown and talk of money offers made it look as though an event might actually happen. People started watching for what came next.

📣 The reveal: there was no chimp fight

Reporting on September 12 described Johnson revealing the promotion as a hoax. The proposed fight never took place.

🐒 The story ended with a different message

Later reports described Johnson shifting the attention toward protecting chimpanzee habitats.

According to NDTV, he shared a screenshot of a donation associated with the Jane Goodall Institute. The amount wasn’t disclosed.

No fighter-versus-chimp showdown. No result to settle the argument. Just a viral stunt that ended with a call to help protect wildlife.
