Youth Underground is the award-winning youth program at Central Square Theater. This school year, our YU Delegates, ages 13-18, will explore the complex topics of democracy and patriotism through theater games, interviews, research, discussions, writing exercises, and more. This journey will culminate in the creation of their very own original play, which will premiere on the CST stage in early May during the YU Festival!

His vision and scientific leadership have been fundamental for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. Congratulations to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel, the 2026 awardees of The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their contribution to optogenetics. Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel discovered channelrhodopsin, a protein found in a single-celled alga. Karl Deisseroth transformed the protein into a light-controlled switch for neurons in specific nerve cells. They have paved the way in a new era in neuroscience.

Ready to investigate social issues, create an original play and perform at a professional theater? Join Youth Underground!

YU is looking for 13 to 18-year-olds to join this year's Delegates Ensemble! Join a community of youth passionate about theatre and activism to speak out about the changes we want to see in our world. This year, we will investigate the complex topics of democracy and patriotism.
