From Boston Percussive Dance Co-directors, Julia Boynton and Kieran Jordan:
In 2009, we joined together with a shared vision to establish a "home" for percussive dance. Taking on a lease in Studio 3 at Green Street Studios, we created Boston Percussive Dance, with a shoe-friendly sprung floor and a welcoming environment for tap, Irish dance, flamenco, and other forms of percussive dance. We have had five wonderful years in this space, and we are grateful to our entire community of students, teachers, and friends at BPD.
As Green Street Studios transitions into a new lease at 185 Green Street, we, as co-directors of Boston Percussive Dance, find ourselves in need of different rental situations for our individual teaching needs. Boston Percussive Dance as an entity will be closing at the end of June, but our separate companies — Julia On Tap and Kieran Jordan Dance — will continue, with Julia's classes relocating to the Deborah Mason School of Dance in Somerville and Kieran's programs continuing in various locations throughout the Boston area, including Green Street Studios. We look forward to continuing our creative partnership — by co-producing percussive dance events in the future — and to building our individual teaching and performance projects in spaces that fit our long-term goals and needs.
In addition, we are pleased to announce that Green Street Studios will be taking over the ownership and maintenance of our hardboard sprung floor, so Studio 3 can keep on dancing! Percussive dancers interested in renting the space can contact GSS directly.
Thank you to everyone who has danced with us at Boston Percussive Dance! Feel free to share your photos and memories from BPD here, and please continue to use this page as a resource for percussive dance classes and events.
