Still thinking about our season opener this past Saturday ! 😌🎶

What an incredible start to HRO’s 219th season! We couldn’t have asked for a better evening of music, and we’re so excited for everything this season has in store! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at Sanders Theatre and helped make our first concert of the year so special !

Join HRO on Saturday, October 3rd at 8 PM in Sanders Theatre for our first concert of the season: Beethoven’s “Serioso” String Quartet arranged by the man, the myth, the legend, Gustav Mahler, as well as his beautiful Das Lied von der Erde! Under the baton of HRO Music Director Federico Cortese, we’ll be opening our 219th season alongside mezzo-soprano, Ashley Dixon, and tenor, John Matthew Myers.

Tickets are FREE for Harvard students with HUID and $25 for General Admission and $50 for VIP available at the link in our bio.

All aboard ! ⛵️✨ Last Saturday, HRO took to the water for an evening of mingling and getting to know the newest members of our orchestra ! ♥️🎶 It was such a special way to kick off the year outside of the rehearsal room. So many beautiful views, so many beautiful people, and so much to celebrate ! 🥂🌊 We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our 219th season. Here’s to the friendships, music, and memories still to come !

We’re baaaack ! 🎶♥️ HRO returned to Sanders this week for our first rehearsal of the 219th season, and we couldn’t be more excited to make music together again !

A VERY special welcome to our new HRO members and the Class of 2030 ! We’re so happy to welcome you into the HRO family 🥳 And, on a slightly bittersweet note, this was the last first HRO rehearsal for our seniors in the Class of 2027 🥹

We’re already hard at work preparing for our first concert of the season coming up on October 3 at 8 PM in Sanders Theatre ! More details on the program and concert coming very soon … 👀🎻

Audition for the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra’s 219th Season!

Auditions are held from August 28th through August 31st in Paine Hall and Lowell Lecture Hall. More details to come online regarding how to enter the building. Harp and percussion candidates should use their specific Calendly link for their auditions. Candidates are encouraged to book Friday/Saturday slots if possible. If necessary, some freshmen candidates may be rescheduled to Friday/Saturday slots (since they are on campus earlier than upperclassmen).

Auditions are judged by the HRO TFs and our Music Director. Please prepare 2 contrasting pieces for a total of 10-12 minutes. You will not be asked to play any scales, excerpts, or sightreading. You will have to complete a short form with information on your musical background and contact information at or before the audition.

What. An. Unforgettable. Tour. 🇯🇵✨

From incredible performances and meaningful cultural exchanges to lasting memories with friends, this tour was truly one for the books, and these photos only begin to capture it all.

A huge thank you to Thomas Gustafson ‘26 Thomas Gustafson for the wonderful pictures, and to our incredible Tour Director Emeritus, Justin Shaw ’27 Justin Shaw , for organizing a truly unforgettable experience. We are also deeply grateful to our generous sponsors for their support in making this tour possible.

And of course, thank you to Stella Chen ‘15 Stella Chen for her brilliant performances and artistry throughout the tour! It was an honor to share the stage with her.

As we look ahead to the fall, we cannot WAIT to welcome our incoming freshmen to the HRO family and begin another incredible season together. See you soon! 🎻❤️

HRO has a long tradition of giving back to our community through our outreach program, and this semester was no exception! Thanks to the incredible hard work of our Creative Director, Christian Ogata ‘29, HRO members visited assisted living homes, schools, and more, playing music from traditional classical to modern pop arrangements! We want to give a special shoutout to all the musicians who performed!🎶

For the incoming freshmen, if you’re interested in using music as a way to connect with communities beyond Harvard, our outreach program is one of the most rewarding parts of HRO. It’s an incredible way to meet fellow musicians, perform in meaningful settings, and make a positive impact through the year!🎻

Here’s what our Schubert group has been up to for the past few days in Tokyo! In addition to performing at the International House of Japan for our incredible supporters, we got to explore Japan a little bit 😁 From Kamakura and the Buddha to Teamlabs Planets, I think it’s safe to say we’ve covered it all 🌸❤️ With that, we conclude HRO’s Japan Tour! THANK YOU YOKOHAMA, TOKYO, NAGASAKI, AND HIROSHIMA FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE 😍‼️🎶
