Here’s what our Schubert group has been up to for the past few days in Tokyo! In addition to performing at the International House of Japan for our incredible supporters, we got to explore Japan a little bit 😁 From Kamakura and the Buddha to Teamlabs Planets, I think it’s safe to say we’ve covered it all 🌸❤️ With that, we conclude HRO’s Japan Tour! THANK YOU YOKOHAMA, TOKYO, NAGASAKI, AND HIROSHIMA FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE 😍‼️🎶

Concert 4/4 ‼️ Hiroshima was our last stop on this incredible tour 🌸🌊🎶 We said goodbye to our unforgettable senior class yesterday morning, and the remaining members of the HRO went to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. After that, Andrew Kim, Bianca Ciubancan, Elizabeth Jones, and John Kim, parted ways with the rest of the orchestra for a special concert of the last movement from Schubert’s C Major Quintet with Stella Chen! Busy busy, but more relaxed. More photos to come 📸😁

3/4 ‼️🎶 We had an incredibly special concert in Nagasaki, where we were joined by BRILLIANT young musicians and a children’s choir and performed two encores. Keep your eyes peeled for our final performance in Hiroshima. Our seniors will rehearse and perform with Fed for the last time… 😢

We completed our 2nd concert in Tokyo, AND our 3rd concert in Nagasaki! Those photos will be out soon 😁 In addition to performing in beautiful concert halls, HRO had the privilege of visiting the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park. It was a truly powerful exhibition and speaks to our tour’s name, “Music as Peace.” Just shortly after the museum visit, a few members of the orchestra met up with Nagasaki high school students and got to play some pieces with them, as they’re preparing for THEIR orchestra concert next month! We are currently on the train to Hiroshima for our LAST CONCERT of our tour, so stay tuned ! ❤️🎶🌸

Stella Chen is an acclaimed violinist, Harvard alumna, and our featured soloist for HRO’s season finale concert this Saturday!

In 2019, Stella won First Prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition, one of the world’s most celebrated international music competitions. Since then, she has performed on stages around the world, and we are incredibly honored to welcome her back to the HRO community.

TOMORROW, Stella will join HRO as the soloist in Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor by Sergei Prokofiev in a program also featuring Requiem for Strings by Tōru Takemitsu and Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” by Antonin Dvořák.

We are so thrilled to have her back with us for this special concert. TICKETS ARE RUNNING OUT, so reserve your spot using the link in our bio! We can’t wait to see you there 🎻❤️

Message from the HRO Executive Board:

Dear community members,

We would like to take a moment to address recent events. Creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community has been and continues to be one of the HRO’s core values. Following our annual retreat in September, the HRO faced an allegation of hazing. The HRO and its executive board have since been cleared of this allegation.

The HRO stands against hazing in any form.

As we step into the new year, we look forward to building on our tradition of musical achievement and cultivating lifelong friendships.

Sincerely,
The HRO Executive Board
