Next Weekend • In Radu Jude’s latest satirical provocation, he presents a film that is more economical in scale (and title) than his previous standout films like Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World. Yet it is no less witty and potent an interrogation of human society in the 21st century.

Orsolya (Tompa) is a bailiff in Cluj, Romania, where greed and corruption have accelerated the pace of development. Orsolya tries to do her job with care and compassion, but the problem is that the job involves evicting troublesome tenants and squatters from property that is to be demolished. One day she has to evict a homeless man from a cellar, an action with tragic consequences that sets her on an increasingly desperate search for solace.

Coming Soon • A rambling shaggy-dog road movie with a killer soundtrack of Italian indie rock and clear echoes of Wenders, Jarmusch, and Kaurismäki, Francesco Sossai’s dazzling sophomore feature is many things at once: a road movie, a casual caper, a tribute to a vanishing industrial Italy, a scruffy intergenerational odyssey, and free-flowing bender through time and space.

THE LAST ONE FOR THE ROAD premieres June 5–8 at The Brattle. Check out the trailer & get tickets at brattlefilm.org/movies/the-last-one-for-the-road/

A washed-up, alcoholic, former minor league pitcher (Walter Matthau) is recruited to coach a Little League team full of misfit tweens. One of the crassest, yet most heartwarming films that you are ever likely to see—they definitely don’t make ‘em like this anymore!

This Week • In Michael Haneke’s international breakthrough feature, Isabelle Huppert gives an absolutely searing performance as a repressed piano instructor who starts an ill-advised affair with one of her students (Benoît Magimel). The psychosexual dynamic between the two and the extreme sexual needs of Huppert’s character make this a harrowing and incredibly rich film.

25th Anniversary! THE PIANO TEACHER screens Sunday at 8pm in a double feature with MISS JULIE as part of our Reunion Week series. Learn more & get tickets at brattlefilm.org/film-series/reunion-week/
