Hello East Coast Dancers!
Harvard Ballroom Dance Team is happy to announce that we will be hosting the 32nd iteration of Harvard Beginners on Sunday, October 19th, 2025! Due to changes that we have made in our planning process, this date is set in stone and we hope that you will put this into your competition schedule. We have been able to set this date so early by changing the location of Harvard Beginners from previous years, as we will now be using the basement of Northwest Labs, which is located on 52 Oxford Street in Cambridge Massachusetts. Northwest Labs has a vast dance floor, a variety of spaces for dances to spectate and practice, and classrooms and lecture halls that teams will be able to use to place their belongings in safe, designated spaces. We are excited to be using Northwest Labs for Harvard Beginners, as it was formerly the space that we would use for Harvard Invitational.
In addition to booking our space far in advance, the HBDT Competition Committee has also decided to make some important changes to the structure of Harvard Beginners. Just like last year, we're no longer functioning as a mock comp and YCN points will be awarded to competitors according to the typical rules of the system used at other collegiate comps. In addition to this, we will also be running an open category at Harvard Beginners this year and giving the "Beginners" a new meaning -- it's no longer just about our newcomers beginning their journey with ballroom, it's now also about syllabus dancers giving their first shot at open choreographies! To encourage that, we offer discounted registration fees to double-registered gold/novice dancers. If you think this implies we are getting rid of the showcase, however, don't worry. We're excited to share more information about that in the coming weeks. 😉
