JESUS CHANGES LIVES 🙌
The Living Word Outdoor Drama loves bringing The Gospel of Jesus Christ to life on our historic 400-foot panoramic set. You will witness Jesus (portrayed each night by either George Clark, John Arnett or Logan Hill) meet several broken, sick, blind, lame, mistreated, ostracized, bitter, curious and sinful people during Ohio's ONLY Outdoor Passion Play. The drama is each Friday night from June 19 through October 2 (Closed July 3 and September 4 for the holiday weekends).
One of the people Jesus encounters is a woman who annoints Christ with perfume (Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-9, Luke 7:36-50 & John 12:1-8). Jesus encounters this woman in Bethany at the home of Simon The L***r (the account in Matthew & Mark). She pours an alabaster jar of expensive perfume over Jesus' head while he was reclining at the dinner table. The disciples became annoyed and angry, asking "Why this waste?" They claimed the perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus takes the moment to teach His disciples a valuable lesson. He says, (Verse 10) “Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me? (11) You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me. (12) She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. (13) I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.”
This woman didn't pour the perfume to gain honor or attention ... She was strictly serving Jesus, Her Messiah. What a message she sent to The Disciples through her action, and Jesus duly recorded it. 🔥🔥🔥
In Luke's account, Jesus is at the home of a pharisee, who had invited Jesus to dinner. The woman pours the perfume on Jesus and wipes his feet with her tears. She knew exactly who Jesus was and that her life had not been what it should have been. The Pharisee, as they often do, points out her sinful life to Jesus. Jesus' response of love and forgiveness is amazing!
(44) Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. (45) You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. (46) You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume. (47) “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” (48) Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”
Jesus had rescued this woman from her Pastor life and gave her an amazing present day and glorious future. 🔥🔥🔥
In John's account, it was at the home of Lazurus in Bethany. Martha is serving the guests and Mary annoints Jesus. In John's account, it is Judas who scolds the woman's actions.
(7)Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial. (8) You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”
All four accounts places the event in a house (3 Gospels state in Bethany) during a meal, a woman is involved, expensive perfume is poured on Christ, and His disciples are present. The theme is that 'the poor will always be with you', 'the perfume was used to prepare my body for burial' and 'forgiveness of sins." It's amazing that Jesus tells this woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” (Luke 7:50)
Jesus let her know that she was now healed of her "many sins" issue because of Him and that she was now in God's family because of her faith. Hallelujah!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Jesus didn't condemn her ... he loved her enough to have His Blood cover her. He meets her in her brokenness ... in her emptiness ... in her loneliness ... in her hurt ... in her rejection ... in her abandonment ... in her pain ... He loved her so much to change her life forever. Amen!!!
She knew all she needed from that day forward was The Blood of Jesus Christ! Hallelujah!!! Jesus indeed changes lives!!!
