We’re excited to announce the next exhibition coming to our gallery, GODBODY by Diovanna Obafunmilayo Diovanna Obafunmilayo !

GODBODY asks the central question, “What does it mean to birth a body free of shame?” With this as its foundation, the series engages the body as a site of emotional processing and vessel for the divinity of self. The rich symbolism and philosophy of the AfroCuban religion, La Regla de Ocha Lukumí, become the spiritual technology with which Diovanna Obafunmilayo engages herself. Existing joyously, and in the process, conjuring a new sense of personhood, is the imperative.

Diovanna Obafunmilayo Frazier is a multimedia performance artist, award-winning filmmaker, poet, and Grammy-nominated songwriter from Virginia Beach, VA. As these different paths of artistry have continued to bloom, she has also developed as a painter, with works held in private collections across the country.

Join us for the opening reception: Thursday, October 22 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Thank you to the amazing artists, writers, performers and attendees who made the start of October, and the new season, so wonderful at !

✍️ We began with the Lift Every Voice play festival, which portrayed an incredible mixture of stories and styles by five playwrights: Michelle M. Aguillon , Hortense Gerardo, Jamie Lin , Shay McQueenie , and Ciera-Sadé Wade .

🪷 After the play festival, we enjoyed artist Megha Nair’s workshop where participants crafted handmade masks, reflecting on ideas of empowerment, self-reclamation and personal guardians.

💃🏻 Most recently, Yarumi González wowed us with her innovative and powerful performance during her Artist in Residency Showcase this past Wednesday.

We look forward to sharing more experiences as the season continues with our annual Day of the Dead Festival on November 1st!

There is only ONE day left to see our current art exhibition by artist Megha Nair, which closes Friday, October 9th.

About the artist:
Megha Nair (b. 2000 in Kochi, India) is a Boston-based artist who creates as an act of introspection. Exploring her relationship with the universe, she uses painting and mixed media to reclaim her identity and redefine divinity. Blending real life and dreamscapes, she uses vibrant colors and cultural motifs to create radiant ancestral planes and personal mythological worlds where memory and imagination collide, drawing from her own experiences of displacement and disconnection.

About the exhibition:
“If you can see me, hold me close” is a body of work focused on redefining divinity and reclaiming identity through a self-built spiritual realm. Nair conceptualizes a visual, personal mythology where reality is blurred with imagined and protective dreamscapes, evoking ancient artifacts from an ancestral plane while giving physical form to surreal worlds.

Juventas New Music Ensemble presents All We Are: Meditations on Family, Identity and Perseverance

📆 Saturday, October 10th at 8pm

Spanning generations and continents, the composers on this program ask what it means to endure, to hold multiple identities, and to cherish what is most fragile and fleeting. All We Are honors moments, both ordinary and remarkable, whose significance is often only understood in hindsight.

Juventas New Music Ensemble is a dynamic contemporary chamber group with a special focus on emerging voices. They reimagine classical music as a vibrant living art form, uplifting rising voices and bringing audiences music from a diverse array of composers that live in today’s world and respond to our time.

🌹This Wednesday!🌹 Don't miss this year’s Artist in Residence Showcase! Artist Yarumi González has developed a multidisciplinary, autobiographical work exploring identity, migration, and the American Dream through poetic and ritual-inspired storytelling, movement, video, photography, installation, and performance. Yarumi is a Venezuelan woman who has been deeply moved by art and social struggles since childhood. During her university years, she chose to pursue her passion and discovered that art is a multifaceted field that extends beyond mere aesthetic enjoyment; it mirrors intricate social and power dynamics. Since then, she's worked extensively with rural and urban communities, blending art with community outreach.
