Why did you audition for "The Diary of Anne Frank"?
I first read “The Diary of Anne Frank” when I was 13, the same age that Anne is at the beginning of the play. I was drawn to audition because so few plays tell the stories of real teenage girls. There aren’t many people in history whose voice has been as widely influential as Anne’s.

What about this show excites you the most?
I have read Anne’s diary multiple times throughout the years, and each time, I discover new things. I look forward to seeing what I will discover from her by playing her. I am excited that audiences will have the opportunity to experience her work in a new way by hearing it aloud on stage.

Meet Ben Ubiñas, a senior studying Theater, Dance & Media. is playing Mr. Dussel!

Why did you audition for The Diary of Anne Frank?
It’s an important show, especially with the rising scapegoating and persecution of Jewish people and other marginalized groups in the United States and around the world. It’s an unfortunately necessary reminder of the human cost of mass dehumanization.

What are you most excited about with this show?
Working in tandem with this awesome ensemble. I’m excited to be a part of the show as it transitions into runs and builds from a collection of scenes into a full story.

Fun Fact about yourself?
Despite playing a dentist in this show, I have never once aspired to be a dentist.

Why did you audition for The Diary of Anne Frank?
Because I’ve always wanted to perform in a play together with the best actor I know, my block mate, the phenomenal Mr. Frank.

What are you most excited about with this show?
To make new friends with whom I can challenge myself to learn new things!

Fun fact about yourself?
Because this is my senior spring, I have committed myself to learning five new activities before I graduate: birdwatching, painting, acting, rowing, and gardening.

Why did you audition for The Diary of Anne Frank?
I auditioned for Anne Frank because it is an important and heartbreaking story led by an excellent team. I studied Anne Frank's life briefly in high school, and I am looking forward to revisiting her narrative and being a part of this portrayal.

What are you most excited about with this show?
This show has a lot of silent interactions between characters and their environment in the annex, so I am interested to see how we navigate them!

Fun fact about yourself?
I used to be an active magician! I started when I was 5, and my stage name was "Jake the Great". I performed at birthday parties and other events up through high school, which also included juggling and making balloon animals.

Why did you audition for The Diary of Anne Frank?
A few years ago, I went with my mom to a community production of ‪The Diary of Anne Frank‬. I was expecting a play that is tragic and sorrowful and upsetting and, of course, it is this, but it is also a play that celebrates family and love and community and kindness and sacrifice in a time of such darkness. I think that stories like the one told in The Diary of Anne Frank are so important to tell and share.

What are you most excited about with this show?
I am most excited about being involved in theatre again. This is the first play I will be a part of at Harvard and I'm really excited to work with the cast and crew.

Fun Fact about yourself?
I can talk with my mouth closed!
