šŸ Yesterday Meets Autumn — Original Oil Painting šŸš™šŸŒ¾
You ever see something that just stops you for a minute… not because it’s loud or fancy, but because it feels like a memory you didn’t realize you missed?

That’s what this little scene did to me.
An old truck resting on a gravel road… trees turning deep red and soft yellow all around it… that quiet moment where fall settles in and everything feels a little slower, a little gentler.

That feeling is what I tried to capture in Yesterday Meets Autumn.
It’s an 8x10 oil painting, simple and honest, the way country life tends to be.

šŸ–¼ļø About the Painting
• 8x10 Original Oil Painting
• One of a kind — $75
• Showing now at Jan’s Antique Store
šŸ“ 1608 Lee St., Rogersville, AL

šŸ‚ If This Scene Tugs at Something in You…
Maybe it reminds you of your grandpa’s truck.
Or the road you used to walk when the leaves were turning.
Or a season of life that still feels close, even now.

I love hearing those stories — they’re the heartbeat behind why I paint.
And if you know someone who loves old trucks, fall colors, or art that feels like home, tag them so they can see it too.

šŸŽØ And For Anyone Who Likes to Know the Artist Behind the Work…
I’m Nilah. I paint from a little corner of Indiana where life is slow, honest, and full of stories if you pay attention.
Over the years, my art has found its way into some beautiful places —
I’ve been a featured artist for Matt Tommey, had my work shared in the Cincinnati Enquirer, won various ribbons, and sold more pieces than I ever expected when I first picked up a brush.

I don’t share that to impress anyone — just because some folks like to know the heart and the journey behind the art they bring into their home.
Everything I paint comes from a place of gratitude, memory, and faith… and I hope you can feel a little of that when you look at my work.

šŸŽØ A Memory That Reminds Me How Far I’ve Come

Facebook brought up a memory today — a moment from three years ago when I was tired, stretched thin, and wondering if all the extra hours were worth it. Back then, I was still figuring out who I was becoming, still turning a bedroom into a studio, still dreaming of things that looked different than they do now.

The memory was this:

A customer hugged me as she paid for her very first oil painting — thrilled to finally have something handmade, something real, something with heart.
And my daughter’s smile over a tiny canvas for her desk… that smile carried more encouragement than she ever knew.

Seeing that memory again made me pause — not in doubt this time, but in gratitude.

Because in the past three years, I’ve grown.
I’ve sold more paintings — including portraits of people’s beloved pets.
I’ve been in shows.
I’ve met new customers, new friends, new encouragers.
I’ve watched my art travel into homes and hearts I never expected.
And I’ve kept painting through grief, through change, through becoming 65 and still choosing to create beauty.

The dream Kevin and I once shared looks different now.
But the calling inside me didn’t fade — it deepened.

I’m sharing this for anyone who’s chasing a dream that feels slow, heavy, or ā€œtoo late.ā€
Look back sometimes.
Let the old moments remind you why you started.
Count the small victories — they add up more than you think.
Success isn’t just money or recognition.
It’s the joy you bring, the lives you touch, the courage to keep showing up even when life shifts under your feet.

Rest when you need to.
Then pick up the brush again tomorrow.

Never give up.
Because you never know how many hearts your gift is quietly reaching — including your own. šŸŽØ

I just finished framing another piece in the studio today, and once again I was reminded how dramatically a frame can change the entire experience of a painting.

It’s amazing how a simple border can shift the mood — suddenly the colors feel more intentional, the composition feels more grounded, and the artwork steps forward with a confidence it didn’t have before. This second piece I framed today felt like it finally found its voice. The frame didn’t overpower it; it supported it, almost like a quiet partner helping the art shine even brighter.

Framing is more than decoration. It’s the final brushstroke, the moment when the artwork becomes whole. And every time I see that transformation, it reminds me why I love sharing these pieces with all of you.

Thanks for being here, for following along, and for appreciating not just the art itself, but the little details that bring it fully to life. I also want to that the staff at Hobby Lobby in Richmond for taking the time to help me pick out what frame goes perfect with my art.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how much a frame can transform a painting. It’s something I experience every time I finish a piece and finally place it in its frame — that moment when everything comes together and the artwork feels complete.

A frame doesn’t just surround the painting. It elevates it. It sharpens the focus, deepens the mood, and gives the artwork a sense of presence that it didn’t have on its own. The right frame doesn’t compete with the art; it honors it. It says, ā€œLook closely. This was created with intention.ā€

As an artist, that moment never gets old. It’s like watching the painting take its first full breath.

So here’s a little reminder from my studio today: the frame is part of the story. And choosing it thoughtfully is one of the most beautiful ways to celebrate the art you bring into your home.

Thanks for being here, for supporting my work, and for giving these pieces a life beyond the canvas.

Heaven’s Red Whisper - 8" x 10" original oil painting

There’s something about a cardinal in winter that feels like more than a bird on a branch.
Especially when the world is quiet… the trees are bare… and the snow has settled into stillness.
That bright red shows up like a message you didn’t know you needed.

My sister has always believed cardinals are reminders that loved ones aren’t as far away as they feel.
That heaven still leans close.
That love doesn’t end — it just changes where it sits.

When I painted this one, perched on a snowy limb with nothing but silence around him, it felt like a whisper from above.
Not loud.
Not dramatic.
Just a gentle, steady reminder:

ā€œI’m still near.ā€

That’s why I named this piece Heaven’s Red Whisper.
Because sometimes comfort doesn’t shout.
Sometimes it simply lands in front of you, bright against the cold, and lets your heart remember what it already knew. You can see this in person at the upcoming Wayne County Fair.

Quiet Love

Some pets don’t just arrive… they find you.
This handsome boy followed my grandson home on a day when my grandson wanted a cat more than anything. We searched for an owner, asked around, waited — but no one ever claimed him. So he stayed. And in staying, he became part of our family for many years.

He wasn’t loud about his affection.
He didn’t demand attention.
He simply loved us in that gentle, steady way that settles into a home and never really leaves.

In this painting, he’s stretched across the top of a chair, resting in the soft glow of light you can’t see — only feel. Peaceful. Content. Trusting. It felt like the perfect picture of who he was: a loving soul who enjoyed being near his people, yet knew how to rest quietly in the warmth.

I named this piece ā€œQuiet Loveā€ because that’s exactly what he gave us —
a calm, comforting presence,
a soft companionship,
a love that didn’t need words to be felt.

Some hearts leave pawprints that stay with us forever.
His surely did. You can see this in person at the upcoming Wayne County Fair.

"Soft Landing for the Heart" is an 8" x 10" original oil painting.

Some healing doesn’t arrive with fireworks or fanfare.
Sometimes it comes quietly… like a blue butterfly choosing a white rose.
Soft. Unexpected. Holy.

This painting reminded me that Abba Father often brings comfort in the gentlest ways — not by fixing everything at once, but by giving the heart a place to rest. A moment to breathe. A reminder that healing can be tender, slow, and beautifully soft.

The butterfly doesn’t force the rose to open.
The rose doesn’t strain to hold the butterfly.
They simply meet — and something inside settles.

If your heart has been tired, stretched, or hurting, may you find your own soft landing today.
A moment where His peace rests lightly on you…
and you feel, even for a breath, that you’re being held.

"Where Stillness Speaks"

Sometimes Abba Father doesn’t shout.
He whispers through the quiet — through sunlight on water, through the hush beneath a bridge, through the steady rhythm of a stream that never hurries.

I painted this 11 X 14 scene because it reminded me that His voice isn’t always found in noise or crowds or motion. It’s found in stillness — when the heart finally stops striving long enough to listen.

The red bridge stands firm, the water moves clear and slow, and somewhere in that gentle silence, He speaks.
Not in thunder, but in peace.
Not in demand, but in love.

If you’ve been searching for answers, maybe it’s time to step into the quiet.
Let the stillness speak.
Let Him remind you that He’s been here all along — waiting for you to notice the beauty He placed right in front of you.

🌊 Storm on the Shore — A Memory That Found Me Again 🌊

Every now and then, a painting from years ago finds its way back across my path. This week I saw a photo of an ocean‑storm piece I created long ago — a wild, windswept beach with waves rising and the sky full of movement. It’s been in its forever home for several years now, but seeing that picture stirred something in me.

I found myself imagining how the owners experience it when they pause and look at it…
the sound of the wind in their minds,
the crash of the waves,
the feeling of standing on the edge of something powerful and beautiful all at once.

So I put together this little video — not of the painting itself, but of the feeling I imagine it gives them. The way the storm breathes. The way the ocean speaks. The way art can carry us somewhere else for just a moment.

It blessed me to revisit it, and I hope it blesses you too. šŸ’™
