It’s a “Christmas in July” kind of feeling here at Starry Night Studio today. These giant (6 1/2 ft.) nutcrackers have been a challenging project, but with lots of help from friends and family they are complete. When they were purchased several years ago they were metallic red, and meant to be displayed that way. And then some creative souls realized they were easy to paint, and now there are lots of samples and ideas for color schemes posted on Pinterest and other similar sites. Lindsay saw some of those nutcrackers that had been transformed and said ,”Hey mom, how cool are these?” And of course, then it was on.😊
So if you’re looking for a colossal project, this is it. It’s not hard, just time consuming. My grandson Battle was my design guy, he planned the color scheme. I used inexpensive acrylic paint from Walmart and then painted on a protective coating of clear varnish. The nutcrackers are offered for sale seasonally through Walmart online.

Presenting a mini retreat with Father Bernard for my church friends was such a rewarding experience! The topic was Sacramentals of the Catholic Church. He shared with us the difference between the sacraments of the church and the sacramentals recognized by the church. It was both enlightening and a reminder of why we use sacramentals in our daily lives. Following his presentation I gave a demonstration for making a holy water font. As you can see in these pictures everyone had success. What a joyful gathering!

What’s better than seashells and Celadon? For me, seashells always bring joy, memories of summer days at the beach searching for seashell treasures. And the Celadon glazes simulate the fluidity of water washing over the shells, what a perfect combination! These pieces will be for sale at the Grounded and Baked gift shop this weekend during the NC Pickle Festival!
