Calumet Lake Winter Trails

Calumet Lake Winter Trails We groom and maintain winter multi use trails in Calumet Lions Park near Calumet Lake, Calumet, MI

We're looking at picking up a small snowmobile to helpe get the trails opened up next season more quickly after storms and wind events. In the past we've been snowshoeing which would take 2-3 days to get the trails prepped for grooming and by then the next storm would pass and we'd be behind. So we plan to be operating the trail system again next season. Like and share this post if you have used and look forward to using the Calumet Lake Trails next season.

Township wants the trail around the Lake groomed next season. Will be looking for a cheap snowmobile that can pull a light drag to run over the drifts rather than shoveling or snowblowing. If there is interest in having the other 3+ miles of trail for fat biking/back country skiing/snow shoeing groomed please comment.

There will be no grooming of trails this season in the environs of Calumet Lake. It is still a great little area to go out and snowshoe or do some real back country skiing. If I get 50 or more people from the local area who would like to see groomed trails next season we may try it again.

Before the grooming equipment gets sold I was wondering if there was a person or more out there interested in helping groom next season? Message me and we can meet to discuss what needs to be done.

At this time I do not intend to groom trails next season. If there is another person or persons who would like to undertake this task I will assist them. Send me a message. I should let the Township know fairly soon as they may sell the groomer.

To operate the tracksled takes some upper body strength (you don't have to a superman). Once the trails are established and there's only a couple inches of snow to deal with it the machine is quite fun to operate.

Because of snowmobile vandalism and other conflicts I am no longer grooming the Calumet Lake Trails. If enough people snowshoe the trail you should still be able to walk around the lake. I cannot continue the fight anymore for these trails.

I have some buckets and bean bags for the bean bag biathlon that I would give to a trail system that would like to try an event like that.

I will also have some 6' fiberglass driveway markers to sell after I get them pulled, if you want to use them next season.

send me a message if interested or comment.

With the warm temps, please at least have snowshoes on. NO "Boot Only" Use! Please respect the effort, time and money that volunteers contribute to groom these trails. Spread the word, Thanks

Took all day but we have 3 trails groomed again. If you'd like to see them up and running sooner I could use some help.

Got the Lake Trail dragged with the tires this evening. Starting to prepare the Forest Loops for grooming. Have some damage to fix on the Lake Trail from a snowmobile that got up on there.

Was able to wrestle the snowblower around the Lake Trail. I would suggest at least wearing snowshoes. I may have erred in places so if you step on the edge you may sink in soft snow.
Hopefully the groomer hitch gets welded tomorrow and I can start packing trails down again on Saturday.

The groomer is having the hitch welded. Unfortunately it is connected to other vital parts so I can't run it at all until the rear hitch is repaired. I'm hoping it can be assembled Friday evening. I'll start re-establishing trails on Saturday.

Have some repairs to do. I'll probably snowblow the Lake Trail tomorrow. Grooming will commence dependant on how fast the hitch gets welded back together
