“I thought I was just going to shake hands with the players or get a picture,” Tovey said. “But Blashill came over to me and said he knew about what happened and gave me some encouraging words. Dylan Larkin did the same, and he even gave he a (hockey) stick which he had just used and signed it in front of me.”

Just a reminder, if you do not have a ticket there is a free viewing party for at Agassiz Field. You are welcome to sit on the field but we won’t be allowing any lawn chairs. Also, please do not bring any outside food or alcohol.

Also, for those with tickets don’t forget about the pre-game pep rally at CLK High School at 4. Doors open for the game at 5:30.

“It’s going to be a cool experience,” said Dylan Larkin. “I know the people up there are fired up. They’re big hockey fans in the Upper Peninsula and it’s cool that the Red Wings are part of it and the state of Michigan. I’m proud to be from Michigan and there’s a lot of people that are proud to be from Michigan, so I’m excited to go up and share NHL hockey with them.”

The Red Wings are expected to arrive in Calumet on Thursday morning. They will walk the red carpet before practicing in front of a capacity crowd.

"I think it's awesome, it's a great opportunity," Blashill said. "I've got some friends and family that I grew up playing with that live in the Calumet area or Marquette, Michigan, and coming up. ...It's great for the U.P., it's great for Calumet.
