It was wishful thinking on my part that all my efforts would result in everything working flawlessly. As it turns out, that isn't the case. Here are a couple of updates to go along with the post from yesterday:

* Please be sure to check to make sure you are purchasing ticket(s) in the theater you want to see the movie in. I realize it can be a little confusing since I'm running the same show on two screens, but please double check prior to completing your purchase.

* If you want to sit with someone in a row, tickets for all who want to sit together need to be purchased in one transaction. The social distance aspect of the software locks out a row to further purchases once any number of tickets are purchased in it. For example, if someone were to buy one ticket in a row, no others would be available for sale in that row.

* For the next 30 days, we will not be accepting or selling movie passes. We are trying to determine how to deal with exisiting passes, since there is no way for them to be accepted for an online purchase. Please be assured that we will find a way to honor the outstanding passes, we are just not sure how to do so at this time.

Thank you in advance for your patience as we learn how to run again, but with many changes. We truly appreciate your continued patronage.

Great news! We have movies! So, there has been a lot of activity at our little local theater since we closed on March 16th. Here is a list of changes to expect:

Safety

There is a plexiglass barrier surrounding the concession area. We have new cash registers so any credit transaction will be contactless, the swipe done outside of the plexiglass. Our concession servers will have on a face shield and gloves. The bathroom and theater doors have a plate installed on the bottom so they can be opened using your foot.

Ticketing/Seating

Online ticking is here! If you visit our freshly redesigned website statecinemascalais.com, you will see the movies (Croods and Tenet) we've secured and when they are being offered. You will notice that the seating has been reconfigured to meet current social distancing protocols. We have removed access to every other row in order to maintain a safe 6 ft distance. You will be able to buy your seat online or at the box office. It is necessary that you sit in that seat to ensure correct spacing. We will disinfect the seats with a state-of-the-art electrostatic sprayer between every show.

COVID-19

The enemy! We must be cautious and diligent to ensure that we keep each other and our community safe. Wear a face covering, except when you are eating delicious popcorn, of course. Stay home if you don't feel well. We don't want to be required to close again as a result of something preventable. Protect, be smart, follow the rules.

State Cinemas in Calais, Maine on the boarder offers first run movies for US and Canadian visitors. Serving St. Stephen, Canada residents and visitors.

State Cinemas in Calais will be selling popcorn, candy, and soda this Friday, the 17th, from 5-7 pm. Place your order at the ticket window and it will be delivered out the side door. Please share this and come get some comfort popcorn!

Hi everyone,

We have had multiple requests to repeat our take out service for popcorn, candy and soda. So... we have decided to "open" again from 5-7:00 pm this coming Friday, April 3rd.

To reassure our customers, we will utilize the following precautions:

We will run this with a staff of three. One person will handle the money, another will fill the orders, and a third will deliver the food to the door where the customer is waiting. Each of the staff will wear gloves, and no customers will be allowed inside. We will have markers on the street indicating a six foot "safe zone". We feel we are able to provide this service, as described, without violating any of the mandates set forth by the state.

A sincere thank you to all who came to the theatre last night to buy popcorn, candy and soda. It was a welcome infusion of cash, and hopefully a yummy treat for those who ventured out. We are so pleased by your support in these troubled times.

We hope you all remain well, so this upheaval of our lives is worth the disruption. Let's hope the smart scientists in our country can find a cure/vaccine, so we can all get back to work and a new normal.

Again, thank you, your support means a great deal to us. We will reopen as soon as we are allowed to do so. The choice of movies available to put on screen is anyone's guess. We'll all find out together.

Hi everyone, we are going to be serving takeout popcorn,soda and candy tomorrow night, 3/27/2020 from 5-7 pm.You will order and pay at the window and someone will bring your stuff out. Please feel free to share so everyone knows

Hi everyone,

In response the Governor's order banning 10 or more people in one place we will not hold the shows planned for tonight and tomorrow. Assuming we are not prevented from doing so, we plan, at this time, to reopen on April 3rd.

Hi everyone,
We are feeling more and more pressure to close, so we will close for 2 weeks. We will have shows this evening, and on Wednesday and Thursday. After the show Thursday night, we will close for 2 weeks. We will keep an eye on developing issues, but our thought at this time is to reopen on April 3rd. I'm not sure what the line-up will be, we will tell you as we get closer.
