Attention jazz lovers! The same week as our 5th Annual Cairo Magnolia Celebration, the Harold S Jones Fine Arts Center is sponsoring their annual Smooth Jazz Festival from 2:00 to 10:00 pm at the Cairo Regional Airport on Sunday, Sept. 6! This free event is open to all, so grab your lawn chairs and go enjoy their great line up of musicians!

Dr. Isaac Lausell and the SIU Jazz Ensemble has been added to this years Smooth Jazz Festival lineup on September 6th at the Cairo Regional Airport from 2pm to 10pm.

Guitarist, composer and writer Dr. Isaac Lausell oversees the Jazz and the Guitar programs at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

As a recording artist and clinician Dr. Lausell is active teaching and performing across the U.S., Latin America and Europe.

Did you know there is a neighborhood group in Cairo called Friends of Lansden Park that has made it their mission to not only maintain but to also improve this beloved city park (also fondly called Cannonball Park)? Whether it’s general care, developmental additions, or major landscaping, these volunteers have ensured we will all enjoy this historic location for years to come! Kudos to FOLP! We are excited to not only feature our beautiful Cairo library at this year’s 5th Annual Cairo Magnolia Celebration on Sept 5, but also the new Cairo African American Heritage Trail during a caravan tour to end our time together. Our board president Don Patton was hard at work this past weekend assisting W. W. Construction with the installation of new signs for the CAAHT…a total of 15 permanent markers can now be found throughout the city. We can’t wait to show them off, so please join us! Labor Day weekend in Cairo will be busy! Not only will there be CHS class and family reunions, our 5th Annual Cairo Magnolia Celebration from 12:00-2:30 at the Cairo IL Public Library (along with the Magnolia Manor opening for tours), but on Sunday the annual (and FREE) Harold S Jones Fine Arts Center Smooth Jazz Festival will be taking place out at the Cairo Airport! Come on home for the weekend!
