Hi!
Showing at the Newburyport Art Association this month, my friend Suzy Cusa and I collaborated on this! She brought her poem Slow Cash to me, writing it out big on lined paper and I started by laying out pieces of cloth that I connected poem to the poem. From there, it evolved into a painting. I wrestled whether to make it realistic or abstract, and it ended up a combination. My father had just passed away, and this really challenged me. I took his green shirt and made it into money, gluing it in places and ironing it for the background for her poem. I wanted to cause us to ponder our busyness, our self focus, to stop and consider what’s important. I hope you like it! 🧡 -Mary

Suzy speaks here of SLOW CASH:

“This poem speaks of the ordinary, yet profound ways in which an antiquated object still has value and power.
Enough power, in fact, to slow down to a halt an entire queue of customers in this 21st-century.

A poem to honor and give space to an elderly man not paying by credit card or electronics, but in his absolute knowing that cash is still, king.

This poem is the observation from the poet witnessing and waiting as the entire queue and cashier respond to this slow cash payment.”

Hello!
I’m sorry I’ve been away from Instagram for a very long time. I’m done with taking hours figuring out what to post, I’m just gonna wing it. I miss those of you I have connected with and have followed!
My dad passed away in November at the healthy age of 103. I miss him! It’s so challenging to feel and grieve. I’m not good at sharing my feelings, actually even knowing what they are.
Here, I decided to throw some paint at a canvas, and it quickly developed into memories of my dad and the walks we would have together and his house by the ocean in Gloucester. I’m calling this “the great conductor”, because it looks like the tree is conducting life! I have my dad to thank for the love he gave me all these 62 1/2 years ❤️. And I have God to thank for my life and the fullness of joy that I now have and am able to express much better than I used to! Now I’m dancing on the elliptical at planet fitness, loving life .
And slowly allowing myself to feel the tremendous pain and real suffering in life and the huge challenge of loving people. The patience of God! Gently and firmly encouraging and directing me at my own pace. I am thankful for my family, all of them! I love you so much. And for all of my friends. Thank you for sharing your selves with me.

If you are an artist or an artisan with any connections to Newbury, Massachusetts, come show/sell/demonstrate your work at Newbury town Day on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 12 noon to 6 PM! COME JOIN other artists, musicians, historians, and a variety of others from our community to reflect the treasure we have here! One Body represents how every single part of the body is important and special no matter what role each plays.

I believe that we are meant to be like like this, each of us connected to one another in love and giving according to our strengths and helping each other with our weaknesses.

This piece also incorporates several “snapshots” of my art over the past 45 years to create a pathway of growth through experimenting, exploring and self expression. 🧡

Write a caption... One Body represents how every single part of the body is important and special no matter what role each plays.

Oh, I’m feeling so grateful!
Sitting outside on our porch swing, hearing the birds chirping their getting-ready-to-bed-down early evening song.
The sunlight still warm enough as it slips lower behind our neighbors’ trees.

So thankful for my husband!
Thankful for his love and respect.
So at peace and pinching myself that I’ve actually retired from my job of 33 years!
So ecstatic to spend three whole days a week, creating art in my backyard studio!

And this is just a small start.
God has given me so much to be grateful for. Two of my sisters and I are going to share a booth at a crafts fair in June!
June 3 in Amesbury, Massachusetts to be exact, for any of you that are close enough to come to the Main Street Congregational churchyard to say hi to us and meet some of the various creative folks there.

I’m grateful for each one of you, those I already know, and really miss, actually, and those I haven’t met yet. I’d like to!

Thank you for being here.

I just want to mention that you are special. You have something incredible about you that nobody else has.
I hope you have the confidence to share it. I believe we are made to share ourselves with others. With those who are safe and those who care. And there are many! Don’t give up putting yourself out there!

I treasure my life! (I haven’t always.)

I am so grateful for everything in it.
Although some parts were terrible and painful, I am grateful for what I’ve learned and the stronger person I’ve become because of them.

I am grateful to have compassion, though I still have far to go in this area.

As God helps me to let go and stop controlling things more and more, I am able to embrace his love for me.

This enables me to see people around me with more love and compassion, much more than I would relying on my own, naturally fearful and anxious, self.

Do you FEEL loved?
Do you KNOW that you ARE?

You are.
