On a fishing trip down the Bighole River, I was enjoying the float when there, on a big rounded rock in the river, were 5 otters! They were clambering all over each other trying to get a good look at us as we floated by them. I was determined to recreate this interaction.
Otters are definitely territorial and I’ve depicted a couple of the characters in this painting with an incredulous expression, as if to ask, “ What are you doing fishing in our river?!”. The others are just as surprised and curious about us.
Hidden in this painting, is a trout going after a “fly” and a mink along the bank.
