BLT History

Although there are programs dating back to 1921, the Butler Little Theatre received its official charter in June 1941 with performances at The Lees Restaurant (tickets were 50 cents!), the Butler High School, and the Sterling Club. In 1945 the group purchased the carriage house known as Campbell's Barn, occupied by the John Eisler Inspection Station. The members themselves remodeled the building at One Howard Street to make it suitable for theatrical performances and have continued to add improvements over the years. The theater seats 155 people and presents five shows during its regular season, holds classes for children, and is one of the oldest continuously-running community theaters in Western Pennsylvania. Butler Little Theatre is a member of the Butler Arts Council, the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau, the Butler County Chamber of Commerce, and the American Association of Community Theatre.

One week from today...

On September 11, Butler Little Theatre will open The Guys — an intimate play about grief, remembrance, friendship, and finding the words to honor those we've lost.

It's a different kind of theatre experience.

Quiet. Honest. Human.

And we hope you'll be there.

Why tell this story 25 years later?

For first-time director Molly Miller, the answer is simple: we have to remember.

As a journalist and teacher, Molly was struck by the idea that the stories of September 11 must be passed from those who lived through it to the generations who did not.

For Molly, The Guys is about the people — the friendships formed, the sacrifices made, and the ordinary people who found themselves in extraordinary circumstances.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, Molly invites us to listen, remember, and carry these stories forward.

May we never forget.

The Guys opens September 11 at Butler Little Theatre.

Two people. One story. A conversation that changes everything.
At the heart of The Guys are two characters — and two actors who bring their story to life.

Meet Laura Crago and Casey Bowser, who bring this intimate two-person play to life on the BLT stage.

There are no large ensemble scenes. No elaborate spectacle. Just two people, a room, and the difficult work of putting grief into words.

Some stories ask us to laugh. Some ask us to escape.
And some simply ask us to remember.

This September, Butler Little Theatre presents The Guys, a deeply moving play by Anne Nelson.

Set in the aftermath of September 11, The Guys follows a fire captain who must prepare eulogies for the firefighters he lost — and the editor who helps him find the words.

It is a story about grief, friendship, memory, and the unexpected ways people help one another through loss.

The Guys opens September 11 and runs through September 19.
