What heater should I get?

This is one of the most common questions I get.

For the chart below, the average room temp is about 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

When choosing a heater:

1- the heater has enough watts to efficiently heat the gallons of water

2-the heater is adjustable. Some heaters preset heaters work ok, however in my experience the temperature of the water fluctuates more than the +- 2 degrees they claim.

Having a fish in a constantly changing temperature will cause their immune system to be weaker allowing illnesses to creep up more easily.

3-the heater is from a reputable brand. Some heaters available are quite cheap compared to others… they will either not work properly or fail with minimal use. Especially for beginners, be weary if it seems too cheap... it probably is.

I have this Fluval heater in 3 tanks. One of my favorite trusted brands.
