A part of my Keep Rolling print! I decided to do this print in multiple pieces because I liked the skates so much! They seem like a fun print to add to TShirts!

Willie Nelson has always been one of my favorite artists and now I have a feeling he’s about to become the subject of one of my favorite Lino prints, too! 🗒
My linocut process always starts with a drawing, tracing or combination of the two. Sometimes I do this digitally, other times it takes place entirely on paper. When I do it digitally, like posted above, I print out my drawing and then trace over it with a pencil, shading everything that is dark and outlining everything that is white. I then flip the page (penciled side down) onto the Lino mat and use my pencil to shade in the back of the page. The pressure from the pencil rubbing on the back of the page effectively transfers any markings I made on the front (now fade down) onto the Lino. I use this as a guide for my carving. The carving never turns out exactly like the markings that went down, some things I change on purpose, others are, to quote the great late Bob Ross, “happy little accidents”!

Lino Lobster! Did you know that a lobster's age is approximately it's weight times 4 plus 3 years? Lobsters have greater life expectancy than most humans. At one point they were considered a terrible food and rumor has it that way back when, there was a law preventing prisoners from being fed lobster more than twice a week. Supposedly, being forced to eat them regularly could be considered cruel and inhumane. A far cry from our take on lobster today!

Lately I have been experimenting with linocut printmaking. For anyone who doesn't know, this is the process of carving an image into a rubber or linoleum mat, inking it and printing with it. You can print on all kinds of materials and fabrics. I have made a few T-shirts, bandannas, tote bags etc. but mostly I have been working with paper! If you're interested in learning more about this craft or just like seeing art in your feed, feel free to follow along!

I find this part of the process the most enjoyable! So soothing and fun to carve little bits of the lino away!
