Remember Fengdiantou from Ep.2?
Same pattern — but this time on the large gong. And the difference is striking. Where the small gong version feels light and quick, the large gong carries a completely different weight on stage. Same name, different instrument, different story.
This is one of those things that's really fun to listen to with kids — once they hear both versions back to back, they get it immediately.

Have you ever heard of Fengdiantou?
It's a small gong pattern from Peking Opera — the name literally means "the phoenix nods." Short, distinctive, and one of those sounds that once you recognize it, you'll hear it everywhere in traditional Chinese theater.
Ep.2 of our Patterns of Percussion series is out now. We made it for families and kids — no music background needed.
